Top 5 highest individual scores in SA20 history, including Kyle Verreynne
South African international Kyle Verreynne produced one of the finest T20 innings in a losing cause, scoring 116 in the just-ended SA20 2024 match against the MI Cape in Centurion on Thursday, February 1.
The ongoing second season of the SA20 league has proven to be an entertaining spectacle. The event has featured both low-scoring thrillers and high-scoring clashes.
The latest encounter between MI Cape Town (MICT) and Pretoria Capitals (PC) was a run-fest, with 462 runs scored in 40 overs.
After batting first, Michigan scored a record 248 runs, with Ryan Rickelton scoring 90. Dewald Brevis, who had struggled for form in recent matches, also shone, scoring 66 runs off 32 balls.
In response, Pretoria just fell flat. They lost six hitters on the powerplay, with three of them going out for a duck. Batting at No. 3.
Kyle Verreynne held on to his one wicket as everything else fell away from him.
He then unleashed on a formidable MICT bowling assault, leading the bowlers on a leather hunt.
The 26-year-old hit seven fours and nine sixes to finish the innings with an individual total of 116 from just 52 balls.
However, Verreynne was unable to lead his squad home due to a lack of support from his teammates. However, the right-hander recorded the greatest individual score in league history.
On that topic, let us take a closer look at the top five highest individual scores by hitters in SA20 history.

1. Kyle Verreynne – 116 off 52 vs MICT, 2024
As previously stated, Kyle Verreynne currently owns the record for the best individual score in SA20 history.
The wicketkeeper-batter was signed by the Pretoria Capitals after Johannesburg released him during the SA20 2023.
Verreynne returned the Capitals’ trust by hitting a strong hundred, scoring 116 runs off only 52 balls.
Despite his team being down 42/6 during the powerplay, Verreynne performed an outstanding job of putting the pressure back on the MICT bowlers.
2. Faf du Plessis – 11 off 58 vs DSG, 2023
Faf du Plessis scored the first century in South African Twenty20 history. The Joburg Super Kings captain delivered a courageous effort in a run chase against a powerful bowling team from Durban’s Super Giants.
Chasing 179 on a tough Johannesburg field, JSK relied on their captain to deliver, and he surely did! Faf began cautiously with Reeza Hendricks (45 off 46).
However, the former Proteas captain went off in the penultimate over of the powerplay, scoring 16 runs against Jason Holder.
While opening partner Hendricks struggled with timing, Faf maintained his onslaught after the tenth over.
3. Jordan Hermann – 106 vs MICT, 2024
Jordan Hermann is another name among the newest generation of South African stars, who are gaining popularity with each passing game.
On January 16, the beautiful Sunrisers Eastern Cape (SEC) batsman and Dawid Malan started the innings against MICT at Newlands.
The openers put up an impressive 138-run combination, laying the groundwork for the Sunrisers’ innings.
Despite Malan’s ejection, Hermann maintained his aggressive hitting, scoring his first SA20 century in only 62 balls.
4. Heinrich Klaasen – 104 off 44 vs PC, 2023
Heinrich Klaasen’s stunning innings of 104 not out off 44 balls against the Pretoria Capitals in the SA20 2023 competition demonstrated extraordinary batting skill.
His remarkable stay not only helped his team, Durban’s Super Giants (DSG), win the game by a record 151 runs, but it also played a crucial part in his team’s chances of making the knockout round.
Following a strong start by the opening hitters, Klaasen entered the crease in the seventh over and was fully prepared to seize the spotlight.
Klaasen hammered the ball all over the field, hitting six sixes and ten fours in his outstanding performance.
5. Rassie van der Dussen – 104 off 50 JSK, 2024
Rassie van der Dussen, although not being known for his hard-hitting heroics, has done an excellent job of staying in MICT’s batting lineup.
He is the franchise’s second-highest run-getter, with over 500 and a hundred to his name.
His first SA20 hundred came three weeks ago, when he scored 104 runs off 50 balls against rivals Joburg Super Kings (JSK).
The graceful batter was part of a fantastic opening partnership of 200 runs with Ryan Rickelton, who scored 98 runs.
