Team India skipper Rohit Sharma racked up his fifth T20I century in the third and final match of the series against Afghanistan on Wednesday, January 17, at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
It was a much-needed setback for Rohit following a spate of poor performances.
His previous century in the 20-over format came in November 2018 against the West Indies at Lucknow.
Rohit Sharma not only scored a century in the first innings, but he also led India to a hard-fought triumph in the Super Overs.
He and Rinku Singh (69*) saved the innings after India fell to 22/4 during the powerplay.
The two put up an undefeated 190-run partnership for the fifth wicket, taking their team to 212/4.
Rohit (121* in 69 balls) became the first batsman to record five T20I centuries, finishing with his best total in the format.
Afghanistan scored 212/6 in 20 overs, sending the match into a Super Over.
Mukesh Kumar bowled an over that yielded 16 runs for the visitors.
India also scored the same number of runs in response, necessitating another Super Over.
India scored 11 runs this time, and Ravi Bishnoi effectively defended them, taking two wickets in three deliveries.
Rohit Sharma scored 13 and 11 runs in the first and second Super Overs, respectively, and carried the most of the workload as his teammates battled.
In the game, he smacked 11 sixes and scored 145 runs.
Fans were overjoyed to see Rohit back on track after two straight ducks in the series.
They responded by circulating memes on social media networks.

Rohit Sharma was named player of the match after his outstanding batting performance in the high-scoring thriller.
He reflected on his performance, stating that he had to bat three times during an IPL match with two Super Overs.
Creating a collaboration is crucial, but we continued chatting so we didn’t lose sight of our goals.
We could come up with a similar scenario in important games, so we batted as long as possible without jeopardising the purpose that we wanted to demonstrate.
Rohit praised Rinku Singh’s recent efforts, stating that he showed his batsmanship. He is rather calm and understands what he is doing.
When given the chance, he makes a terrific impression.

We watched how he performed in the IPL, and he brought that same approach into international games.
Rohit Sharma will return to play on January 25, when India faces England in the opening Test of the five-match series in Hyderabad.
