Former Indian wicketkeeper Deep Dasgupta believes Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli’s IPL results should not be utilized to determine their inclusion in the T20 World Cup in June.
Kohli and Rohit have been recalled to the Indian T20I team for the next three-match series
against Afghanistan, which begins on January 11.
Because this is the final T20I series before the World Cup, so IPL form will be carefully considered while selecting the team.
However, in an interview with Star Sports, Dasgupta stated that Kohli and Rohit’s selection will not be based only on their IPL accomplishments.
It will be significant, but for players like Virat and Rohit, the IPL will not determine their destiny,
and I am confident that Virat will reach 500+ runs.
Even if the season is a disaster, he scores 500-600 runs.
It would be intriguing to see Rohit this season since he will not be heading the Mumbai Indians, thus it will be a new sort of job for Rohit, according to Dasgupta.
Despite all of the debates, Dasgupta indicated that the World Cup roster and
playing XI are close to being finalized in the thoughts of the team management.
Despite all of the debates, I believe the World Cup team is 90-95 percent definitive,
and the playing 11 is 99 percent final because neither will score runs in the IPL.
Another critical factor is captaincy, as this style is captaincy-based.
It’s almost certain that Rohit will lead as captain in the World Cup because he is leading,
which is meant to be the series’ final schedule, he said.
Kohli returned to his best in the previous IPL, amassing 639 runs at an average of over 53 with two hundred after several mediocre seasons.
However, Rohit’s journey in the lucrative event has not been easy, with the 36-year-old averaging
less than 30 in each of the previous seven seasons.
Rohit was also recently replaced as captain of the Mumbai Indians (MI) for the next season by Hardik Pandya.
Pitches in the West Indies are not conducive to batting – Deep Dasgupta
Deep Dasgupta believes Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma would be useful on the low-scoring West Indian surfaces during the T20 World Cup.
Team India suffered a 2-3 T20I series setback in the West Indies a few months ago without the renowned combination.
While Kohli is yet to win a T20 World Cup, Rohit was a member of the Indian team that won the first tournament in 2007.
Typically, wickets in the West Indies are not batting-friendly; but, if we are anticipating a 160-170 type of game.
I believe this is a better alternative since you have the solidity and expertise of both of these excellent players.
We saw a shift in clarity and attitude following the 50-over World Cup, said Dasgupta.
Since the 2007 edition, India has struggled in T20 World Cups, reaching the final only once in seven attempts.
The Men in Blue also hopes to end an ICC championship drought that has lasted since 2013
Champions Trophy, when they last won an ICC event.
