Salam Bayash, Tilak Varma’s former coach, has praised the Hyderabad batsman for his performance for Team India in the current five-match T20I series against the West Indies. Because of his efforts and dedication to his game, according to Bayash, Varma was meant to be a major player.
In the first two T20Is, Varma led Team India in scoring. The 20-year-old scored 39 runs off just 22 balls in his debut before becoming the second-youngest player to reach 50 runs in T20 Internationals for the Men in Blue. The left-handed batter hit 51 home runs off of 41 pitches, including one six and five extra-long shots.
Bayash stated to News18:
He comes from quite low beginnings. I asked him to put out the effort, and he did so by following me (Main mehnat kraya, vo mehnat kiya). I’m overjoyed for him.
He went on:
Every coach wants to see one of his charges represent the nation, and my wish was granted. We just kept striving hard in this direction because I always felt like he was meant to be a major player.
For those who are unaware, Tilak Varma’s performance in the Indian Premier League earned him his first call-up. In 25 games, he scored 740 runs with a strike rate of 144.53, scoring three half-centuries in each of the previous two IPL seasons.
Varma’s father, an electrician, helped him during his formative years, according to Bayash, who also said:
He used to attend the academy from six in the morning until six in the evening. He used to grow so exhausted that he would doze off while seated behind me, and I used to worry that he may trip and fall.
Added him:
Therefore, I asked his parents to work close by the academy. Tilak’s sole responsibility was to concentrate on cricket, and his enthusiasm encouraged me to pay more attention to honing his abilities.
When Salam Bayash’s desire to see Sachin Tendulkar was realized by Tilak Varma‘s
Salam Bayash also described how Tilak Varma, a player for the Mumbai Indians (MI), who are the team’s mentor in the Indian Premier League, realized a wish he had had for more than ten years to meet the renowned Sachin Tendulkar. He stated:
- “Sachin Sir really likes him. I’ll give you another example. He was informed by Tilak that my teacher is a huge admirer of yours. I am completely knowledgeable about both you and your instructor, Sachin Sir retorted. I got to meet Sachin Sir when he visited Hyderabad last year, and that was a huge, huge experience for me.
The third Twenty20 International between India and the West Indies will take place at Providence Stadium in Guyana on Tuesday, August 8. This will be Tilak Varma’s next appearance.
