Tilak Varma, according to Aakash Chopra, might be dropped for the second T20I between India and Afghanistan if Virat Kohli and Yashasvi Jaiswal return.
After being assigned to bat first in the opening T20I at Mohali on Thursday, January 11, Afghanistan set India a 159-run goal.
The goal was reached with six wickets and 15 deliveries to spare, with Varma providing a 22-ball 26.
Chopra said in a video posted on his YouTube channel that Varma’s failure to capitalize on his opportunity may cost him his place in the second T20I.
Tilak Varma arrived after Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill left, and Shivam Dube was given the order.
Varma batted successfully for a while before being bowled out by Azmatullah Omarzai.
Tilak Varma has not properly capitalized on his opportunity.
Will Tilak Varma play in the next match, said the former India opener?
I believe he will be omitted because if both Virat Kohli and Yashasvi Jaiswal are available, who would be left out?
No one can ignore Shivam Dube, and no one can touch Rinku Singh. I’m not sure about Shubman Gill, but I believe Tilak Varma will be benched for the next match.
Kohli missed the first T20I against Afghanistan due to personal issues,
but he is set to play in the second game on Sunday in Indore.
Jaiswal, who was slated to begin with Rohit Sharma, was ruled out of the series opener due to a groin strain in his right.
Tilak Varma – He must remember that he must complete matches, Aakash Chopra on Jitesh Sharma
Aakash Chopra was similarly frustrated with Jitesh Sharma for failing to complete
the game, saying (9:40): Jitesh played a fantastic knock.
Let me put my hand up and say that Jitesh performed well, but he needs to remember that he
needs to finish matches, which he could have done. He’s hitting brilliantly.
The renowned analyst pointed out that the Vidharbha player is up against a slew of wicketkeeper
batters for a spot in India’s T20 World Cup team.
There will be no question if he converts his 31 runs to 45-50 and ends the match because his position is not yet certain.
It will take some time since, for that spot, Sanju Samson is a lock, don’t count out KL Rahul as he may bat down the order in
the IPL and Rishabh Pant’s name might come up if he gets healthy.
Chopra also mentioned that Ishan Kishan may be a candidate for the middle-order wicketkeeper-batter position.
He continued by stating that, given the opposition, Jitesh should have remained undefeated and
finished the match, emphasizing that such opportunities are uncommon.
