The Indian Premier League (IPL) of 2024 is rapidly approaching, and the 10 teams’ think tanks will have already started making serious plans for the much-anticipated competition. Three reasons why Aiden Markram should remain the captain of SRH in the 2024 Indian Premier League
In particular, the SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) has a lot of preparation ahead of them. Despite winning just four of the 14 games they played in the IPL 2023 season, they placed dead bottom in the rankings.
There has been considerable uncertainty over SRH’s captain for the forthcoming season after they acquired Pat Cummins during the IPL 2024 auction. While Cummins had a fantastic year as Australia’s captain, Aiden Markram captained the squad last year, but they didn’t do well.
Though it’s reasonable to assume that they won’t have to wait that long, the team management has stated that they would want to decide closer to the beginning of the IPL in 2024. Their greatest option for the position of leader may be Markram, who is more than capable of handling it.
Three reasons why Aiden Markram should remain the captain of SRH in the 2024 Indian Premier League
1. Even with players like Mayank Agarwal, Cummins is the only other serious candidate to lead the SRH in the 2024 Indian Premier League. Even if he has shown great leadership over the past year or two, considering the franchise’s international resources, he really shouldn’t be in the XII.
Better T20 players than Cummins are unquestionably Markram, Heinrich Klaasen, Marco Jansen, Glenn Phillips, Wanindu Hasaranga, and Travis Head. If SRH wants to bolster its bowling unit, perhaps Fazalhaq Farooqi would be a better choice than the Australian.
2. For the past three IPL seasons, SRH has not made it to the playoffs. In 2023, 2022, and 2021, they came in last, ninth, and last, respectively. The Orange Army needs consistency throughout this difficult time they are going through.
Rather than opting for a player whose availability is never guaranteed, such as Cummins, Hyderabad should choose a dependable long-term leader. In that sense, Markram is unquestionably a stronger choice because he will be familiar with the players having led them the previous season.
3. Ever since he helped South Africa win the 2014 U19 World Cup, Aiden Markram has been considered for the role of captain for the national team. Even though he hasn’t had many chances to lead the Proteas, he has left a lasting impact at the lower levels.
Even though his side wasn’t one of the clear favorites to win both seasons, Markram guided the SunRisers Eastern Cape to the SA20 League Trophy in each of the first two seasons of the competition. He led from the front in each of the three categories, expertly arranging his bowlers.
