The Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) assembled a respectable roster for the 2022 Indian Premier League (IPL), where they qualified for the playoffs but lost in the Eliminator.
LSG relied on the excellent performances of their budget picks, such as the talented Ravi Bishnoi and the uncapped Mohsin Khan. Deepak Hooda and Quinton de Kock, who managed to provide excellent value for their runs, were at the forefront of their movement.
However, other individuals on the roster have not lived up to their potential. Here are three LSG players whose IPL 2023 contracts are too expensive.
3 Nicholas Pooran
At the IPL 2023 auction, LSG purchased Nicholas Pooran for a staggering 16 crore, making him their most expensive signing.
The West Indian was selected by the Super Giants because they were in desperate need of a left-handed pitcher who could handle both pace and spin in their middle order. He took responsibility and persevered through a few difficult chases during his IPL 2022 season with Sunrisers Hyderabad, which included a prolific season.
Pooran is not the most consistent, despite the fact that he is extremely talented and dynamic. In the past year or so, he has not performed well in either franchise leagues or international cricket. He has only had one notable IPL season.
The maverick batter’s potential remains to be seen by Gautam Gambhir and co.
2 Krunal Pandya
Krunal Pandya made a strong start to the IPL 2022 season with LSG, scoring some crucial goals and controlling the ball tightly. Nonetheless, his exhibitions blurred towards the business end of the opposition.
In 14 counterparts for the Super Goliaths last year, Krunal oversaw 183 runs at a normal of 20.33 and a strike pace of 126.21. Additionally, he took ten wickets at an economy rate of 6.97.
The all-rounder has not scored more than 250 runs in any IPL season since 2018, and his strike rate per campaign has never been higher than 130. Additionally, he has never taken more than 12 wickets in an IPL match.
Given his finished product, Krunal currently commands 8.25 crore rupees, which seems high.
1 Marcus Stoinis
LSG will pay Marcus Stoinis a meager 9.2 crore yen for his services. The stout Aussie got through an extreme mission in IPL 2022, neglecting to contribute fundamentally in one or the other division.
Stoinis had 156 runs scored, averaging 19.5, but he did not have any runs scored that were fifty or more. He only took four wickets at an economy rate of 11.29, and he has only played in one successful IPL season all time.
LSG decided to keep the all-rounder despite rumors that they would let go of Stoinis ahead of the IPL 2023 auction. However, it does not appear that he will be able to justify the price.
