The Delhi Capitals (DC) are in a tough spot ahead of the IPL season in 2023. They have had to scramble to sign an Indian wicketkeeper who can replace Rishabh Pant due to his absence, and David Warner has been appointed their skipper. DC’s budget is also being eaten up by a few players, including some of their signings from the IPL 2023 auction.
At the same time, Delhi has a number of players on cut-price deals who provide the franchise with more value than their price tags indicate. The following three DC players are significantly more valuable than their IPL 2023 contracts.
3 Lungi Ngidi
It has been amazing to watch Lungi Ngidi grow into an all-format bowler. The big fast bowler has managed to stand out in a talented South African pace attack with his pace, seam movement, and all-phase prowess.
Ngidi took 11 wickets for the Paarl Royals in the SA20 league at an excellent economy rate of 7.16. He also had a great 2022 in T20Is, returning 22 scalps, including two four-fers, in 13 matches at an economy rate of 8.84.
At DC, where his countryman Anrich Nortje is the primary option, Ngidi will probably only serve as a bench player. However, at 50 lakh, he is an excellent backup.
2 Rovman Powell
Rovman Powell’s game has improved as a result of leadership. The all-rounder with a lot of power has become a consistent batter in all formats, and his recent T20 numbers are excellent to read.
Powell made significant contributions for the Peshawar Zalmi in the Pakistan Super League as well as the Dubai Capitals in the ILT20. The 29-year-old is as destructive as they come on his day, having constantly improved his spin game.
Powell was endorsed by the Delhi Capitals for just ₹2.8 crore. In the IPL 2022, he scored 250 runs at a strike rate of 149.7, and it seems inevitable that he will score more runs.
1 David Warner
Claiming that 36-year-old David Warner is underpriced at 6.25 crore rupees may appear odd. However, the new DC skipper, who has been one of the IPL’s most consistent players for a decade, is exactly that.
Warner scored 432 runs at an average of 48.00 and a strike rate of 150.52 in Delhi’s first IPL 2022 campaign. He and Prithvi Shaw put together a great opening combination and broke the 50-run mark five times. Six catches were also caught by the southpaw, who is also a force on the field.
Warner is going to have even more on his plate this year. Entrusted with driving a Rishabh Gasp less DC, the Aussie should dig profound and convey a productive season with the bat.
