Team India had a difficult year in 2022 because they were unable to compete across formats on multiple fronts. Several players put on outstanding performances despite their subpar overall performance.
Shreyas Iyer, Suryakumar Yadav, and Rishabh Pant had the most runs across all formats, while Yuzvendra Chahal, Axar Patel, and Mohammed Siraj took wickets. However, there were a few players on the other end of the spectrum who were unable to deliver.
The following are three Indian cricketers who highlighted for the side in 2022 yet probably won’t play a worldwide match in the impending scheduled year.
#3 Jayant Yadav
During his six-year Test career, Jayant Yadav participated in six matches. When India required an additional spin-bowling option to complement their premier tweakers, he made all of his appearances at home.
Jayant took the field in a Test against Sri Lanka in March, which came as quite a surprise. He probably didn’t even deserve to be called up, and several domestic performers got left out along the way.
The offspinner also failed to make an impression, scoring just two runs and taking no wickets in the match.
In 2023, Jayant playing for India in any format would be a huge surprise.
#2 Ajinkya Rahane
Ajinkya Rahane has been absent from the schedule for ODIs and T20Is for some time, and he has also lost his spot in the Test team.
In 2022, Rahane took part in two Tests, both against South Africa in January. In four innings, he gave up 0, 58, nine, and one runs. These low runs come after a terrible few years of playing the format.
The middle-order batter made ridiculous attempts to leave the game, but he struggled against spin and pace.
It was understandable that Rahane was cut. Even though he had a rough time in domestic cricket before he seemed to find his feet, he shouldn’t be in India’s plans for 2023. He has spoken out about his desire to make a comeback.
#1 Dinesh Karthik
The story of Dinesh Karthik’s return to the Team India T20I team is legendary. The veteran wicketkeeper brought fans together to celebrate his achievement, even though it did not result in any awards.
In 2022, Karthik played 28 T20Is and scored 287 runs with a strike rate of 141.38 and an average of 20.5. He had tough seasons in the Asia Cup and the T20 World Cup, either because he didn’t get enough opportunities or because he didn’t perform well.
Since Karthik has not been named to the T20I squad since the World Cup, it would appear that the selectors have overlooked him. The Men in Blue may prefer younger players in his position, even if the 37-year-old has another phenomenal Indian Premier League season with Royal Challengers Bangalore.
