Former Indian all-rounder Sanjay Bangar has backed speedster Prasidh Krishna to succeed in Test cricket, despite a costly start to his career in the first Test against South Africa at Centurion.
Despite taking his first Test wicket, Prasidh threw up 61 runs in 15 overs on Day 2 and was unable to match Jasprit Bumrah’s performance. Bangar, who was part of the team management during the 2018 South African tour, offered insight into how Bumrah, too, had a similar start to his Test career.
What does Sanjay Bangar have to say about Prasidh Krishna’s rocky start in Test Cricket?
Sanjay Bangar, speaking to Star Sports on Wednesday, said of Prasidh Krishna’s difficult start to life in Test cricket:
“This is something I believe is possible. This has also occurred to others like Jasprit Bumrah. I recall the first Test, which took place in Cape Town. He ran 60-70 times on Day 1. He then went back to his original length, which is hitting the length hard.”
Sanjay Bangar urges Prasidh Krishna to go long
Instead of going for swing and bowling in the slot, the former Indian hitter believes Prasidh should concentrate on obtaining more bounce from the pitch. According to Sanjay Bangar Bangar:
“That’s what you saw: Prasidh didn’t provide the clear point of difference that the team’s management was looking for in his initial spell. But, as we saw in the second spell if he can keep striking the deck hard and not go looking for a swing, he may still be a nuisance. It’s early days for Prasidh, but he’s not the only one who’s had a slow start to his Test career.”
With Temba Bavuma questionable to bat and South Africa ahead by 11 runs, India would be hoping that Prasidh Krishna finds his rhythm and assists Bumrah and others in cleaning out the Proteas as soon as feasible.
What is Prasidh Krishna’s bowling style?
Krishna got two wickets despite allowing 29 runs in a four-over stint in Dublin.
This Krishna will very certainly become Prasidh. “When I first saw him, I predicted he’d become famous because he had all of the basic ingredients of fast bowling,” Chopra said.
He possesses a strong arm action, a nice bounce, and a top speed of 140 kph. Prasidh Krishna has returned at an advantageous time. Chopra stated that he took two wickets, both with short balls, against Paul Stirling and then Lorcan Tucker.
Chopra also complimented spinner Ravi Bishnoi’s performance, highlighting the consistency of Bishnoi’s influence on the game. In the second T20I against Ireland, Bishnoi dismissed Harry Tector and Curtis Campher.
