After India lost to Australia in the T20 World Cup semi-final, the former captain of India launched a vicious attack on the Indian women’s team.
In the Women’s T20 World Cup semi-final on Thursday, the Indian women’s team lost by just five runs, exiting the competition.
India had held Australia to 172/4 in 20 overs, and at halftime of the innings, they were cruising at 97/3 in the run chase.
However, the team went through a batting collapse, which was triggered by Harmanpreet Kaur’s dismissal, and it ended at 167/8.
Harmanpreet’s runout occurred when her bat was struck at the crease while she was returning for a second run. Prior to that, Harmanpreet had been brilliant.
Richa Ghosh (14), Deepti Sharma (20*), and Sneh Rana (11) failed to lead India past the finish line after she was dismissed on 52 of 34 deliveries.
India also failed to maintain the rapid flow of runs. Fans and former cricketers praised the Indian women’s team’s fightback after the game, but the team’s former captain, Diana Edulji, has criticized the players severely.
Edulji has harshly criticized the team, stating that the Indian women’s team isn’t fit enough, and urged the BCCI to change the women’s cricket team.
I thought the U-19 team was far more physically fit than the seniors. They didn’t lose in the end.
“The BCCI must thoroughly evaluate the players’ fitness.
I am aware that the yo-yo test can be difficult for women. 12 out of 15 will fail that test, but you have different standards for what constitutes good fitness. A day after India’s five-run semi-final defeat, she told PTI, “There is no accountability right now.”
After the World Cup defeat, “you are definitely looking at an overhaul” regarding planning and preparation.
First and foremost, they need to improve their fitness, fielding and catching in between wickets. You won’t be able to run unless you have leg strength.
In addition, Edulji stated that India should eradicate its “star culture” and implement a “proper strategy” for women’s cricket.
It has become routine to lose a game that you won. The BCCI must make a firm decision and not bow to the players’ demands. Have a well-thought-out plan for the future. We are sick and tired of star culture.
