These guys have freaky abilities: Alex Carey feels Tim David’s skills are on par with Hardik, Pollard, and Russell. The Australian men’s cricket team announced their 15-person squad for the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup on Thursday, September 1. 14 of the 15 players who were on the team last year, when Australia won, made it to this year’s squad. However, Tim David, the only player who made the team for the first time, was the most talked about.
The Australians gave the 26-year-old Singaporean cricketer his first international call-up. He has made a name for himself in T20 leagues around the world. David can play for Australia because his parents were born there. Since he took the IPL 2022 by storm with his powerful batting, everyone knew he would be on the team.
More on the players
This year, David was part of the Mumbai Indians when they joined the cash-rich league. They paid Rs 8.25 crore for his services, and the right-handed batter lived up to the hype by showing off his skills. Even though he didn’t get enough chances at the beginning, he made a name for himself in the last few games. This was enough to catch the attention of the Australian selectors, who chose him for the T20 showpiece event.
The wicketkeeper-batsman on the team, Alex Carey, is in awe of how hard David hits the ball. He thinks having David on the team will help it defend its world title.
What Tim said
“I’ve played against him (David) in the Big Bash and I’ve seen his raw power from behind the stumps,” Carey said on SEN 1170 Breakfast on Friday. “He’s got the ability to hit both sides of the ground.”
“The media and the noise around Tim David is that he has just got that ability to hit sixes from ball one. Not a lot of guys have (that ability). What a ride it has been for him in the last 12 to 24 months. He has come from a middle-order Big Bash player to dominating the world scene in the middle overs,” added Carey.
The left-handed wicketkeeper batter said that David is one of the best T20 batters in the world because he is like Hardik Pandya and Kieron Pollard.
“Along with Hardik Pandya, Kieron Pollard, and (Andre) Russell, these guys have freaky abilities.”
“Looking at that T20 Australian line-up, it’s a hard line-up to crack into. They’ve got some selection headaches, that’s for sure.”
Australia will start its 2022 T20 World Cup campaign on October 22 at Sydney Cricket Ground against rivals New Zealand. This will be a rematch of last year’s T20 World Cup final.
