Kapil Dev had a spectacular tournament, dominating from the beginning at all times. Dev, one of the finest all-rounders to ever play the game, is also on the list of various records, as well as the holder of one in particular. In this listicle, we present three Kapil Dev records that may never be broken.
Three Kapil Dev records that may never be broken
1. Kapil Dev still maintains the record for the greatest numbers by a skipper in a Test match. In 1983, he reached this milestone by scoring 9-83 over the West Indies in Ahmedabad.
Dev accomplished this feat during the following innings of this game where the West Indies were bowled out for 201. Set 242 to win, India were all out for 103, handing the visitors a 138-run triumph.
2. Although Kapil Dev is second on the list of bowlers with the most hit-wicket wickets, it is doubtful that anybody would beat him and the record holder Graham McKenzie.
Although the former has four such dismissals, Dev just has three. Ray Lindwall, Fred Truman, Vinoo Mankad, and Headley Verity all have the record alongside Dev, but no modern-day cricketer is on it.
3. Kapil Dev and retired India wicketkeeper-batter Syed Kirmani had the second-highest partnership for the ninth wicket in One-Day Internationals.
They kept the record until Angelo Mathews and Lasith Malinga broke it in 2010 when batting for Sri Lanka against Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
Of course, Dev and Kirmani got theirs when batting together against Zimbabwe in the 1983 World Cup at Tunbridge Wells, where the former went on to smash an unbroken 175 and rewrote history. The two combined for 126 important runs.
Dev went on to bring India back from the verge of elimination in the competition with this knock and then led them to victory in a spectacular manner.
