The Ultimate Guide To Chess Olympiad 2022: The Chess Olympiad starts on July 28 in Mahabalipuram with matches starting in the first round. Get all the details here.
The Chess Olympiad, jointly organized by India and Georgia in 2020, will now be returning to the Indian city of Chennai after a gap of 4 years, as India and Georgia were crowned the joint winners in 2020. It is expected that players from more than 180 countries will participate in this biggest sporting event in history. The last edition of the championship tournament was held at Bautmi, Georgia in 2018 after a pandemic prevented it from being conducted in 2020.
This has never happened before, that India has hosted the Chess Olympiad in Chennai. It’s expected to have 187 countries participating; 188 Teams for the Open section and 162 for the Women’s section.
A total of 30 Indian players will be competing in the Olympics. Each country can have a maximum of 5 members, with only 4 being used in each round. The Captain does not play during matches but decides the composition of his team. The tournament is comprised of 11 rounds; 3 per country, and India could pick one more team for each category to provide an even number.
India is gearing up to host the Chess Olympiad for the first time this summer, which will be followed by a grand opening ceremony on July 28. As expected, there will be thousands of players from all around the world participating in the event.
Levels of competition in the world’s first Chess Olympiad start on July 28 in Tamil Nadu and end August 10.
India will send 5 men’s teams and 3 women’s teams to the 2022 Chess Olympiad.
