Calling the experience between the Chennai Super Rulers (CSK) and Delhi Capitals (DC) a “David versus Goliath” fight in the IPL a misrepresentation of reality. It is not based on their current squads but rather on how well they have performed throughout the IPL’s first 16 years.
CSK have won the title four times and have participated in the playoffs the most, 11 times. On the other hand, Delhi is one of the teams that have never won the trophy, and their appearance in the IPL 2020 final was their best performance thus far.
Even though the performances of these two teams in IPL 2023 have been different so far this season, they have still played in some memorable matches that have kept fans interested.
In light of this, let’s take a look at some of the most memorable IPL matches between CSK and DC thus far.
famous matches played among CSK and DC in the IPL
3) 30th Match, Pune, 2018
CSK held their nerve to secure the two points in a nerve-wracking match.
It appeared as though CSK’s openers, Faf Du Plessis and Shane Watson, would defeat DC, but three quick wickets forced them to reconsider their total once more.
After that, CSK skipper MS Dhoni came to the crease and launched a counterattack against the DC bowlers. He hit five sixes and two fours for a 22-ball 51*, which ensured that his team got a good total of 211/4.
DC before long ended up battling to keep and contemplating saving their NRR as they lost four wickets for only 74 runs inside the 10th over. However, Rishabh Gasp and Vijay Shankar set the CSK bowlers back under tension with a quickfire organization of 88 races to provide their group with a hint of something to look forward to.
However, despite being battered, the CSK bowlers kept their composure and ensured that their team prevailed in the match by a ludicrous 13 runs.
2) 50th Match, Dubai, 2021
Run scoring was never going to be kind with the Dubai surface, which was helpful for the spinners in the later period of the innings with the ball going onto the bat pleasantly in the initial 10 overs.
When Chennai’s batsmen found themselves reeling at 62/4 after just 10 overs, they had to learn this the hard way.
The experienced Ambati Rayadu then gave a spin batting masterclass, scoring 55 runs in a measured inning to raise the score to 136/5, 10-15 runs short of the par score.
Until Shikhar Dhawan struck 6, 4, 4, 6, off Deepak Chahar in the fifth over, Delhi’s innings was ineffective. This gave the inning the necessary momentum. DC, on the other hand, were struggling at 99/6 after 15 overs due to regular wickets.
The game’s turning point occurred when DC defeated DC in the 20th over after Krishnappa Gowtham dropped Shimron Hetmyer with 28 required off 18 deliveries.
1) 3rd Match, Chepauk, IPL 2015
It was the typical sluggish and languid surface of Chepauk Arena, where Chennai used to choke the batsmen with their quality spinners in past seasons.
MS Dhoni, captain of CSK, won half of the battle for his team by choosing to bat first on a surface that would become increasingly sluggish as the game progressed. However, they still needed to bat well and reach 150.
The gradualness of the pitch constrained the CSK batsmen to play rate cricket, and that brought about them batting at SR near 120. Faf Du Plessis and captain Dhoni helped Chennai achieve a competitive but challenging total of 150/7.
