The third T20I between India and South Africa will not include participation from Kohli and KL. The authorities rested Virat Kohli out of the third T20I between India and South Africa. The teams will play the final match of the series on Tuesday in Indore. This was done so that he could get back into top form before the ICC T20 World Cup. They made the decision with Kohli’s workload in mind. The authorities think he needs to be in good shape for India’s first game of the World Cup on October 23 against Pakistan at the famous Melbourne Cricket Ground.
India beat the Proteas in the first and second T20Is by eight wickets and 16 runs respectively to lead the series 2-0*. This means that Tuesday night’s game at the Holkar Stadium is a mere formality. India beat South Africa in a series at home for the first time in history in Guwahati. Kohli played an outstanding innings, scoring an unbeaten 49 runs off 28 balls. Even though he didn’t get his half-century, KL Rahul (57) and Suryakumar Yadav (61) both hit crucial fifties to help India beat South Africa in a T20I series for the first time ever at home.
Changes in the blue squad
India will play its last Twenty20 International (T20I) game before the 2022 World Cup on Tuesday. The Indian management and authorities team has already shared its plans to change the Men in Blue’s playing XI. Kohli, who has played in all of India’s games since the Asia Cup, has been given a break. Someone else, most likely Shreyas Iyer, will take Kohli’s place at No. 3 in the game.
“He [Kohli] has played back-to-back matches. Will have to be careful about his workload. With the T20 World Cup starting later this month, we want Virat to be fresh mentally and physically. He has featured regularly for India in T20I matches since the Asia Cup and with the series already won, it’s better to give him a breather and someone else can be handed a game ahead of him,” as per sources.
Rahul is another player who is likely to get a break, along with Kohli. Rahul has also played in all of India’s games since he came back from an injury in August. He has played in two ODIs against Zimbabwe, the Asia Cup, and a total of five games against Australia and South Africa. Rahul started slowly. But he appears to be about on track now. He has hit four half-centuries in 6 matches, including back-to-back 50s in the two T20Is against the South African team.
