The tennis qualification system explained – Pathway to Paris 2024. The Olympics might be 3 years away from now, but the preparations begin for players by the time the last Tokyo Olympics are over. Olympics are one of the biggest sporting tournaments in the world that sports persons work on.
The largest sporting venue is all set to host the next Olympics, the Paris 2024 Olympic games. The mega superstars of sports from different fields and from different countries are practising for their target.
Will the superstars Serena Williams, and Rafel Nadal be able to play on the most famous and the best clay courts on the planet?
It will be the 7th time that an Olympic tennis tournament will be held on the clay courts since it was first held in Barcelona in 1992.
The qualification rules of tennis tournaments as per the Olympics
In the Paris 2024 Olympics, 172 quotas will be provided for 5 tennis events including Women’s Singles and doubles, Men’s singles and doubles, and mixed doubles. 6 players per gender can qualify from each NOC which means a total of 12 athletes. These top players(up to 4) will be representing the country in each tennis event in the Olympics.
The players must follow eligibility rules and ITF, the rankings of 10 June 2024 will determine which athletes will qualify.
Singles: The draws will include 64 players for each tennis competition as per the maximum of 4 quotas per NOC. France is directly qualified being the host country, they cannot use it if they are already qualified as per rankings. The 6 quotas include ITF and university places. ITF includes the winners of continental competitions in America, Asia, and Africa. 2 ITF quotas are reserved for Olympic and Grand Slam champions if they were not able to qualify using all other criteria, but they should be in the singles top 400 and don’t make NOC exceed their maximum.
Doubles: Two maximum teams per NOC out of 32 teams to feature in doubles events. The Top 10 ATP and WTA doubles will qualify first as long as their partner is in the top 300 of any ranking. The partner nomination will not exceed NOC maximum quota. The rest of the quotas will be assigned with combined rankings of partners.
Mixed doubles: The players qualified in singles and doubles can take part in a mixed total of 16 teams and 1 per NOC is allowed.
The players to watch out
Rafael Nadal, Sarena Williams, Noval Djokovic, Andy Murray, Venus Williams, Roger Federer, Iga Swiatek, and Belinda Bencic are some players to watch out for.
