The Return of Venus Williams to Wimbledon 2022. The draw for the mixed doubles competition at the 2022 Wimbledon Championships has been made public, and former world No. 1 Venus Williams is one of the wild cards. Williams will team up with Jamie Murray to play her first match in over a year for the event. Due to a leg ailment, the 42-year-old player has not competed on the WTA Tour since she was eliminated in the first round of the Chicago Open the previous year.

Venus was last seen competing in a WTA 250 tournament in Chicago just before the start of the US Open. There, she was defeated by Hsieh Su-Wei in the first round. Venus is a five-time winner of the Wimbledon singles title as well as a six-time winner of the doubles title with her sister Serena. In the end, she decided not to compete in the last major of 2021 and has not been seen on tour since then. Williams was nevertheless seen walking about the grounds of the All England Club after Serena’s entrance and participation in the singles draw, where she suffered a disheartening defeat to Harmony Tan on Tuesday. Williams was watching Serena play in the event. Venus had already met up with men’s No. 1 Novak Djokovic, signing autographs and posing for photographs with his family before they watched the play from their Centre Court box. They were cheering her on.

This mixed event will mark the second time in three years that Williams and Murray will headline the draw. In the first round, Venus Williams and Jamie Murray will face Alicja Rosolska and Michael Venus, while the No. 5 seeds Giuliana Olmos and Marcelo Arévalo are waiting for them in the second round.
