The outspoken defense of an IND bowler against criticism
The outspoken defense of an IND bowler against criticism: India will have a new spin attack in Australia, led by veteran leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal. The Men in Blue want to make up for their early exit from the World T20 in the UAE last year. Chahal and Ravichandran Ashwin will be the main spinners in the subsequent T20 tournament. Axar Patel will replace Ravindra Jadeja, who is out with an injury. Deepak Hooda is also in the mix. He can help out with a few overs of off-spin as an extra spinner. On the other hand, Rahul Chahar and Varun Chakravarthy, who were picked for the World T20 before, don’t seem to be anywhere in the picture right now.
Chakravarthy was picked for the tournament because he had some great spells with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). He took 35 wickets and confused some of the best batters with his mystery element. The two-time IPL champions then paid 8 crores to keep him for the 2022 season. But in the end, the bowler only took six wickets in 11 games, with an economy rate of 8.51. Even worse, when the Knight Riders decided to change things up, he was taken off the eleven-person team.
Chakravarthy on criticism
Chakravarthy has talked about how he was criticized for how he did in the World T20 last year. Using Virat Kohli as an example, he spoke about how a drop in form can make the most prominent players look bad.
Kohli got his long-awaited 71st international century after 1,020 days. This happened earlier this month. During the recent Asia Cup, the star batter broke out of his drought with the bat by getting two 50s in a row. At the end of the tournament, he scored 122 runs without getting out against the Afghans. This was his very first ton in T20 Internationals.
“It’s okay. Everyone gets questioned. Even Virat Kohli gets questioned. If someone has not performed up to expectations, they will come under the scanner and that’s the nature of the sport. I can’t question that. My job is bettering myself day by day. Not at all, there’s nothing I could’ve done differently,” Chakravarthy told Sportskeeda.
Mediocre season with KKR and inspiration from DK
On his mediocre season with KKR, Chakravarthy said – “The problem which I figured out was that I started to run in a little slower. I didn’t realize that initially, but after I got a break I did realize it. And after that, the ball started coming out better.”
The 31-year-old also said that he had talked to Dinesh Karthik, who made a surprising return to the Indian team after an intense 2022 IPL. At age 37, Karthik has been giving the Indian innings a late boost. In 2007, he was on the team that won the first T20 World Cup. Now, he is going to Australia as a finisher and keeper.“He is now experienced at making comebacks, and he keeps doing it. His latest comeback is a very solid one, and it’s going to take him a long way in the blue jersey. He has talked to me personally about what to think and how to go about things. It’s definitely more mental than physical right now. If I’m able to align my energies and my thoughts in the right space, I think the doors will open,” said Chakravarthy.
