Mattia Binotto has informed Haas team principal Guenther Steiner that the upcoming 2023 Ferrari power unit is “going like a rocket.”
Since Haas is a Ferrari customer, this would be good news for the American team when it comes to the cars for the upcoming season. On the other hand, Binotto has submitted his resignation to the Scuderia and will be leaving the team at the end of the year.
Steiner was speaking at the Lorenzo Bandini Trophy ceremony that took place over the weekend in the Emilia Romagna region of Italy. This year’s winner was Haas driver Kevin Magnussen. Steiner has heard good things about the power unit for next year from the former Ferrari team boss.
According to the Dutch edition of Motorsport.com, Steiner stated, “On Tuesday I saw Mattia Binotto and he told me that the engine for next season is going like a rocket.” Steiner was quoted.
Ferrari receives a lot of support in Emilia Romagna. We will benefit as well from the engine’s competitiveness. This indicates that the engine for next year will be a rocket.”
The team struggled through the year with their inexperienced lineup propping up the field in the slowest car on the grid because Haas did not choose to develop their 2021 car in-season and already had a low baseline performance in comparison to the rest of the field.
This decision was made so that the team could devote all of its resources.
to preparing for the mass regulation change in 2022. The decision paid off with strong early-season performances, particularly from Magnussen, who returned.
Steiner hopes to use the extra money from finishing eighth rather than tenth in the Constructors’ Championship as a platform for the team to have a better year in 2023 and eventually move up the field.
He stated, “We have had two difficult years with the pandemic.” The Title that just finished worked out positively, however it might have been something more. We see it as an expansion year. We hadn’t planned on having a pole position, but Magnussen gave us one.
“We want to expand further in 2023. The objective is to move up in the final standings, compete for points in each race, and eventually finish on the podium.
Over the course of the summer, he stated, “We set big numbers in terms of objectives on the power unit.” In more than 25 years at Maranello, I’ve never seen anything like what we were able to develop on the power unit last season for 2022.
With F1’s engine freeze locking in development, the Italian manufacturer did, however, experience some reliability issues.
Binotto then said at the end of the year that the team had to reduce its power during the second half of the season to avoid repeat problems.
