The Kansas City Chiefs Waived Two Players, Trim Roster Down to 85
The Kansas City Chiefs Waived Two Players, Trim Roster Down to 85: The Kansas City Chiefs Tuesday afternoon made what could be the first round of final roster cuts in an effort to meet the NFL’s imposed deadline. The Chiefs had until 4:00 p.m. ET on Tuesday trimmed their roster down to 85 players, and they were able to make their first round of final roster cuts in the last hour of eligibility.
Four players were released on Tuesday, one of which was a defensive lineman. The Kansas City club had recently released four wide receivers from the team. The team will continue to release players with each passing day and has been doing so using different rosters.
The roster total at 87 allowed the Chiefs to make the releases of Edwards and Gray for their roster, which granted their release spot. With this, the Chiefs finished one less move on Monday.
Edwards was an undrafted free agent in 2020. After that, he played for the Atlanta Falcons from 2020 to 2021. After his year with the Falcons, he joined the Kansas City Chiefs in January of 2021 as a practice squad signee. Edwards re-joined the team on a reserve/futures contract in February 2019 but didn’t last through the first round of tryouts.
After only a month playing with the Kansas City Chiefs, former Steeler receiver, Jeremy Gray is looking for another NFL team to sign him. He most recently played for the United States Football League’s Philadelphia Stars and helped them win their 7th straight title and 26 catches 215 yards and two touchdowns.
Kansas City is now good on its cuts for a week. It will have until Aug. 23 to get from 85 players to 80. On August 30, Kansas City must make all the final roster moves before 53 players, meaning any player at all positions can be cut in the preseason finale.
