The Cardinals cut Kinglsey Keke, four other players hours before the Tuesday deadline. The Arizona Cardinals have been progressing with their roster cuts, as they have waived defenders Kingsley Keke, Greg Long, Haggai Ndubuisi and Ronnie Rivers. They also terminated the contracts of Breon Borders and other cornerbacks.
Keke is the most experienced and is a long time Green Bay Packer. Keke has 54 tackles, 6.5 sacks and two forced fumbles with 17 starts off of 41 games in his career. Keke was claimed off waivers by the Houston Texans in February, but Houston released him on May 3rd.
He missed training camp and did not play in the opener due to an ineffective preseason. As a result, his departure from the Lakers was decided.
Borders is the only player with regular-season experience with the Cardinals. He played one game for Arizona last season and appeared in 18 defensive snaps. He worked out and trained at Upriser Academy in Africa, which was formed by former New York Giants Pro Bowler Osi Umenyiora
The Cardinals do not need to release another player because the currently have 86 players on the roster. Rivers was competing for a kickoff return position, but Jonathan Ward and Eno Benjamin have experience in that department. They do not need to release another player because of an international exception being used.
Arizona will have a week of practice training camp at State Farm Stadium before facing the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday evening. After this game, the Cardinals will reduce the roster to 80 players; likely before making a trip to Nashville for two days of practice and then another preseason game against the Tennessee Titans on Aug. 29.
The Arizona Cardinals were one of the teams that had to make a roster cut earlier than most, as they needed to go down from 90 players to 85 players by Tuesday’s deadline. So far, they have made quite a few cuts and released a few players. With so many NFL teams still in the hunt for playoff berths, there are going to be more roster moves made over the next few days. Keep an eye on Arizona as we will update you with all of the latest news and updates.
