Gabriel Martinelli, an Arsenal forward, is said to be set to sign a contract extension that will keep him with the team until 2027.
Martinelli, who is 21 years old, has established himself as a key first-team starter for Arsenal during the 2022-23 campaign. In 14 Premier League games, he has scored five goals and provided two assists, continuing his good form from the second half of last season.
Martinelli, a technical dribbler who plays with pace and directness, has been crucial to Arsenal’s excellent start to the season. Working on the left flank close by Gabriel Jesus, Martin Odegaard, and Bukayo Saka, he has assisted his group with laying out a five-point hole at the highest point of the Chief Association table.
SPORT reports that Martinelli wants to extend his contract with Arsenal until June 2027 because he believes in Mikel Arteta’s potential. Furthermore, Martinelli’s decision to extend Jesus’ three-and-a-half-year contract is thought to have been influenced in part by Jesus’ long-term injury.
Martinelli’s current contract expires in 2024, so Barcelona has been keeping an eye on how he does at the FIFA World Cup in Qatar in 2022. A potential permanent transfer is unlikely, despite the friendly relationship between the Brazilian entourage and the Catalan giants.
Martinelli, who signed for £6.4 million in the summer of 2019 from Ituano in Brazil, has scored 23 goals and 15 assists in 104 games for the North London club across all competitions.
He is expected to play for Arsenal on Monday, December 26, in a Premier League matchup against West Ham United at home.
Mikael Silvestre tips Arsenal star to shine in Gabriel Jesus’ absence due to injury
In an interview with Betting Expert, former Arsenal center-back Mikael Silvestre stated that Eddie Nketiah is more than capable of filling in for Gabriel Jesus when the latter is sidelined with a knee injury. He stated,
“Purchasing a new player does not make any sense to me. Nketiah has the potential to play at a very high level, so I think they should keep their current team. Even though he isn’t quite there yet, this is his chance to seize the opportunity. He must seize this opportunity and score goals for his team.”
Silvestre went on to discuss Nketiah and share his thoughts:
“Nketiah is more like a fox in a box than Jesus, but he finishes well. As a result, they must also alter their playstyle. Jesus, who plays a key role for them, has scored goals and gotten assists this season. His injury is a significant blow.”
Jesus played 20 games for Arsenal this season, scoring five goals and providing seven assists before the start of the 2022 FIFA World Cup. In contrast, Nketiah scored three times in 19 appearances.
