Former England captain Michael Vaughan believes the umpires’ decision to halt play on Day 2 of.
The Australia-Pakistan Test in Sydney was another example of Test cricket “shooting itself in the foot.” He said that the competition should have continued using a pink ball instead.
The match was perfectly poised in the second session of Day 2 with Australia at 116/2 chasing Pakistan’s first-innings total of 313 when the umpires came together and asked the players to go out.
The sky has darkened with big clouds looming above. However, with the floodlights turned on, there was no evidence of players complaining about poor sight.
Simply switch to a pink ball and continue. Vaughan remarked in a post on X that test cricket “continues to shoot itself in the foot.”
The umpires called early Tea for the day after around 15 minutes. This entailed taking advantage of the 20-minute break and adding overs to the last session.
However, given rain is expected throughout the rest of the day, this may not signify much.
Some people criticized the move because of the weather as well.
They believed that with rain on the way and the light not too awful, the umpires could have made a decision and allowed the game to continue for at least a few more overs.
Michael Vaughan – Despite losing both openers, Australia is in a strong position
Australia’s innings began smoothly, with David Warner and Usman Khawaja taking their time against the new ball and only going against the exceptionally loose deliveries.
The former, who was playing his final Test, was dropped at slips early in his bat and proceeded to race beyond 30.
However, he edged one against spinner Agha Salman for 34 (68) just before lunch.
Khawaja and Marnus Labuschagne steadied the second session and played conservatively until Aamer Jamal, the previous innings’ hero with the bat, came to the visitors’ aid and nicked the left-hander off down the leg side.
