Test Cricket And T20 Cricket Can Co-exist, remarks Andrew Strauss: Former England captain Andrew Strauss has a feeling that Test cricket and T20 cricket can coexist. At the same time, he noted that the format confronts a significant challenge in the cricketing world’s hectic schedule.
Strauss holds the position of the chairman of the cricket committee of the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB). He states the high-performance review into the game’s future in the country.
“One thing we know in other countries, Test cricket does not pay the bills, as it does here. The T20 format is the way that a lot of people get introduced to the game in the first place. I still maintain that they can sit together comfortably, Test cricket and T20 cricket.”
Strauss stated that the challenge was to provide the cricketers with a manageable schedule that gives the players the time and energy to play both formats.
“It definitely feels like right at the moment, the rate of change is increasing. And the truth is, none of us knows what is around the corner so you can all look into the future and go. Yeah, we are going to have this situation where players are signed up to franchises for 12 months of the year and there’s less international cricket.”
“We do not know any of that at this point. The cricket world around us is changing unbelievably quickly.” He feels that every day, every week, every month, a new example of how that world is changing around us can be seen.
“And one thing that we are having to ask ourselves in this country is where does our game fit into all of that?” Andrew Strauss added.
He stressed that the players will always be looking at those opportunities side by side. And they can decide what can be the best for them. And whatever the decision might be nothing can be held against them.
Strauss requested that it is important to promote all the brilliant things that cricket in the country offers players. He emphasizes having a strong vibrant domestic game. He wants to make sure the players are playing the right balance of formats. In this way, the players would not be drifting down the white-ball short-form route.
“There is still plenty of players that want to commit and challenge themselves to be the best Test cricketers they can be,” Strauss said.
Strauss urged the English cricketers to be nimble and adaptable to changes Strauss said.
“I think that’s really important that we set ourselves up in this country, we set the game up in a way that allows us to be flexible and adaptable.”
