Tennis enthusiasts theorized on the internet that Novak Djokovic faked the wrist injury at the United Cup 2024 after witnessing him practice vigorously before the Australian Open in 2024.
Djokovic has stated that he has been experiencing pain in his right wrist for the past few weeks.
Due to his pain, he requested a medical stoppage during his singles match against Australia’s Alex de Minaur in the United Cup quarterfinals on Wednesday.
The tournament physio, however, did not grant the Serb the desired respite, which disappointed him.
He eventually lost against de Minaur in Serbia’s match to Australia at RAC Arena.
The world number one recently practiced at Rod Laver Arena ahead of the Happy Slam, which begins on Sunday, January 14.
He displayed no evidence of wrist discomfort during the practice, leading tennis fans to conclude that the injury allegation was fake.
Novak enjoys the drama around the injury. Do not trust anything till you see him on a stretcher, a fan commented on X, previously Twitter.
Another admirer believes it is one of the Serb’s techniques to make his opponents feel complacent.
The fan claimed that Novak Djokovic claims to be injured every year to lull his opponents into a false feeling of security.
Novak Djokovic: I’m still hungry, I’m still competitive, and I can run for hours
During an interview with Sports Klub, Novak Djokovic recently expressed his quandary over nearing retirement.
To be honest, I’m not sure when to quit and where to play.
According to the 36-year-old, “There’s always a part of me that is a young boy who just adores tennis and knows nothing but tennis and has devoted his entire life to tennis, and that boy still wants to keep going.”
The 24-time Grand Slam champion went on to say, “I’m still hungry, I still want to compete, I can still run for hours, thankfully,” but it’s more of an emotional issue.
It’s more along the lines of, ‘What is the priority?’
Tennis has been my top focus for the past 30 years, and I don’t want to lose out on too many precious times with my children.
Novak Djokovic has two children: Stefan, a nine-year-old son, and Tara, a six-year-old girl.
