TCU Offensive Players to Watch vs. Longhorns in Week 11
TCU Offensive Players to Watch: In Week 11, the Texas Longhorns will host the TCU Horned Frogs in Austin. The Longhorns have won the series 64-27-1 all-time, including last year’s triumph in Fort Worth.
The Longhorns’ strong start in 2021 continued with a 32-27 classic victory against rival TCU. Texas improved to 4-1 in the game, with running back Bijan Robinson rushing for a season-high 216 yards.
Sonny Dykes, a first-year head coach from SMU, joins the Horned Frogs. He is no stranger to Texas football, but bringing sustained success back to Fort Worth will be a difficult task. At SMU last year the Mustangs finished 8-4 including a win against TCU.
The Horned Frogs approach the 2022 season with high hopes of competing near the top of the Big 12. TCU aims to be one of the Big 12’s shocks this season, since the Horned Frogs were picked to finish seventh in the conference in the Big 12 Media Poll.
Stay tuned to LonghornsCountry.com throughout the week as we preview every element of the game against the Wildcats. We’ve previously given the Horned Frogs a basic preview. Now, let’s take a look at several TCU offensive players to keep an eye on for the Longhorns.
Max Duggan, quarterback
Max Duggan, the Horned Frogs’ veteran quarterback, returns for his senior season. Duggan is still in a quarterback fight with Chandler Morris, but Duggan is expected to earn the position. Duggan threw for 2,048 yards and 16 touchdowns last season.
Duggan has grown as a quarterback during his collegiate career. Duggan is expected to pursue the ground game in his last season with the Horned Frogs. He rushed for 352 yards and three touchdowns last season. Also, with all of his wide receiver targets returning from last year, his throwing attack should improve. The Big 12 boasts several excellent quarterbacks, but Duggan may be the conference’s sleeper with the biggest promise.
Running back Zach Evans has transferred to Ole Miss, leaving Kendre Miller in large shoes. Miller was named to the Big 12’s third team after an outstanding 2021 season. Miller proved his worth last season, running for 623 yards and seven touchdowns. Miller possesses top speed, allowing him to make explosive runs.
Last season, the Horned Frogs placed third in the Big 12 with 196.3 running yards per game. Miller was a big reason for that, since TCU had a lot of alternatives. This season, Emari Demercado, the Horned Frogs’ third option, will aid with the running load. On the ground, TCU should be at the top of the conference, and Miller should have a breakout season.
Quentin Johnston, WR
Quentin Johnston is the genuine difference maker in the Horned Frog offence. He returns as the team’s top receiver in his junior season. Johnston was chosen to the Big 12’s preseason offensive first team. In 2021, Johnston caught 612 yards and scored six touchdowns.
Johnston is a dynamic wide receiver who thrives in big times. His greatest effort came against the Oklahoma Sooners, when he caught three touchdown passes for 185 yards. Whoever is selected as a starter will be expected to run a more pass-first attack. As a result, Johnston will profit from the fact that he may expect more targets in 2022.
