Lyca Kovai Kings successfully defended their Sriram Capital Tamil Nadu Premier League title after a decisive win over Nellai Royal Kings in the championship game of the 2023 TNPL at The India Cements Limited Cricket Ground, Tirunelveli.

Atiq Ur Rehman’s aggressive batting helped Lyca Kovai Kings cross the 150-mark in the 16th over and added 55 more runs in the last four overs. In the space of two balls, Nellai Royal Kings lost R Sri Niranjan and Ajitesh Guruswamy while attempting to chase down 205 for victory. Captain Arun Karthik made a strong start to his innings, scoring 23 runs in K Gautam Thamarai Kannan’s over. However, he was unable to continue the carnage as Shah Rukh Khan dismissed him in the fifth over. Ultimately, Nellai Royal Kings failed to chase down the target and lost by a huge margin of 104 runs.
Since 2016, the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association has hosted the TNPL every year, except in 2020, when the league was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Chepauk Super Gillies are the most successful team in the seven editions held so far, having won the championship four times in 2021, 2019, 2017, and 2022 when they shared it with LKK, who have already won the championship twice. Additionally, Sichem Madurai Panthers and Tuti Patriots have won the championship once each.

Jhatved Subramanian was declared Player of the Final for his brilliant performance in the final. Although G Ajitesh failed to guide his team to win the coveted trophy, he won several awards including tournament MVP and Orange Cap award. Meanwhile, Lyca Kovai Kings captain Shah Rukh Khan bagged the Purple Cap. It is confirmed that Lyca Kovai Kings will be rewarded with prize money of INR 50,00,000 for winning the championship and Nellai Royal Kings will get INR 30,00,000 after losing the final.
