T20 World Record broken in Finland: Gustav Mckeon
T20 World Record broken in Finland: Gustav Mckeon: The third T20 World Cup 2024 Europe Sub-Regional Qualifier tournament witnessed a world record broken in Finland. At the age of 18 years and 280 days, French opening batter Gustav McKeon became the youngest Men’s player to score a T20I century. He knocked five fours and nine sixes in 61 deliveries making 109 runs against Switzerland in Vantaa.
McKeon broke the Afghanistan opener, Hazratullah Zazai’s record by more than two years. Zazai scored 162 runs from 62 balls against Ireland in 2019 at the age of 20 years and 337 days.
McKeon’s innings scored 76 runs from 54 balls against the Czech Republic. He scored 185 runs coming at a strike rate of 161, and an average of 92.50.
France fell short to chase the target despite Gustav’s efforts
Despite the century, France failed to win the match. France lost to their neighbors in a nail-biting last ball. Switzerland successfully chased down a target of 158 runs.
Swiss captain Faheem Nazir took the lead with 67runs off 46 deliveries. Ali Nayyar’s tremendous effort ensured a last-chance win.
Nayyar knocked 12 runs in the last three balls, including a boundary hitting the final ball, which tore down the confidence of the French, meaning the pair sits with 2 points in group stage action.
Norway is leading in Group 2 due to two impressive victories over the Czech Republic and Estonia.
Luxembourg failed to win in two matches
In Group 1, Austria and Guernsey are undefeated. Luxembourg did not win in the two matches. Bulgaria and Slovenia have not tasted victory, but they are set to play each other in Wednesday action.
Guernsey is placed at top of their group, though the Channel Islanders were pushed by Luxembourg in a 17-run win.
Shiv Gill of Luxembourg was given the Player of the Match honors with a 38-ball 47. Despite his performance, his effort fell in vain when seamer William Peatfield turned the match with three wickets.
The winner of the third Sub-Regional tournament is set to join Denmark, Italy, Jersey, and Germany in the Europe Qualifier next year.
