T20 WC India Squad: Harshal Patel back in training
T20 WC India Squad: Harshal Patel back in training: The 31-year-old India National Cricket Team right-arm medium-pacer Harshal Patel returned to fitness training. Patel was ruled out of the Asia Cup 2022. Harshal posted a few videos of him training in the gym at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bangalore.
Harshal Patel has been India’s one of the most successful T20 International pacers since the completion of ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021. Patel was struggling with a rib injury and got ruled out of the upcoming Asia Cup along with premier pacer Jasprit Bumrah. This step was a major blow to Team India.
“Jasprit Bumrah and Harshal Patel were not available for selection owing to injuries. They are currently undergoing rehab at the NCA in Bengaluru,” the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) gave its statement in the squad announcement for the Asia Cup 2022.
The Asia Cup 2022 is the 15th edition of the tournament and is scheduled to be played from August 27 to September 11. The entire tournament will be held in United Arab Emirates (UAE). The Men In Blue will face the Pakistan National Cricket Team in their opening clash on August 28 in the region of Dubai.
Harshal Patel took to Instagram to display that the injury-enforced break is allowing him to train without thinking about the competition. He said that he looks forward to getting “stronger faster and more robust”.
“Back to the grind!! Sometimes the silver lining with injury is that it allows you the time to train without thinking about competition which is precious. Looking forward to these 3-4 weeks of getting stronger, faster, and more robust,” the pacer wrote.
The ace bowler has been a member-player of the Indian team set-up ever since exploding onto the scene in 2021. Harshal won the Purple for most wickets in the IPL 2021 playing for the Royal Challengers Bangalore that season.
In the absence of Bumrah and Harshal, Bhuvneshwar Kumar is leading India’s pace attack in the Asia Cup 2022. There is a big responsibility on young pacers Arshdeep Singh and Avesh Khan to perform well for the Indian Cricket Team.
