Swiatek hosts a charity event for victims of the Ukraine war
“Iga Swiatek & Friends for Ukraine”, scheduled for July 23 in Poland’s Krakow, will feature a mixed doubles match and a set of singles between Swiatek and compatriot Radwanska. Both matches will be umpired by Ukrainian Svitolina.
On Wednesday , French Open champion Swiatek shared a post on social media and opened up about this event. She said that for months she has been working with her team on a charity initiative for Ukraine to support those who suffer because of the war. She added that there will also be a special guest representing Ukraine. former football player Andriy Shevchenko will be joining the event.
Swiatek, who is on a 36-match winning run, has indeed been open regarding her sympathy for the troubled country, wearing a blue and yellow ribbon on her cap in recent weeks.
The 21-year player defeated Jana Fett 6-0 6-3 in her first round match at Wimbledon on Tuesday and will face Lesley Pattinama Kerkhove on Thursday.
Swiatek is a professional Polish tennis player. She is the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) world No. 1 and the youngest player in the leading 10. Iga won the 2020 French Open and will be the first Pole to win a Grand Slam singles championship. She has become the tournament’s younger singles champion since Rafael Nadal in 2005 and the tournament’s youngest women’s singles champion until Maria Sharapova in 2004. She won the championship once more in 2022.
