In the thirty-first game of the Women’s Super Smash 2023–24 at University Oval in Dunedin, Northern Knights Women defeated Otago Sparks by a score of 22 runs using the DLS technique. Super Smash Women’s 2023–24 Points Table is given below.
Wellington Blaze is still in first place in the rankings. They have seven victories under their belt, one loss, one draw, and one match that produced no outcome. The Blaze are carrying 32 points and have a net run rate of 0.97.
The Northern Knights Women advanced from fourth to second place with a score of 22 points at an NRR of 0.23. They finished with five victories, four losses, and one draw in a match. The Knights have won three straight games after a weak start to the season.
With three losses and four victories, Central Hinds dropped to third place. They also lost the other two matches and drew the other one. Additionally, hinds are carrying 22 points at an NRR of -0.14.
Super Smash Women’s 2023–24 Points
Otago Sparks fell one rank to fourth place with 20 points. They have five victories and five defeats in their games. Auckland Hearts and Canterbury Magicians are still in the lowest two places according to the standings. Hearts and Blaze have each amassed 12 points, with respective NRRs of -0.87 and -0.06.
In a 12-over rain-shortened game, Northern Knights Women lost the toss and had to bat first. With seven fours and two sixes in 46 runs off 37 balls, Chamari Athapaththu lifted the team to a respectable total.
In the final few balls, Jess Watkin and Caitlin Gurrey played important knocks. The Knights finished with 94/1 in 12 overs. The only bowler for Otago Sparks to record a wicket in the opening innings is Linsey Smith.
Otago Sparks’s middle and upper order collapsed severely in reaction. Caitlin Blakely was the leading scorer with 20 runs off of 13 balls. Unfortunately, no other batsman managed to reach double figures as they managed to score just 64/6 in nine overs, losing the match by 22 runs in an even more curtailed game.
In the eliminator, the third-place Hinds and the Knights will face a battle as the league campaign comes to an end. The winner will take on Wellington Blaze in the main match on Sunday, January 28.
