Earlier in the month of April, Cricket South Africa (CSA) and SuperSport TV made an announcement regarding the development of a Twenty20 league that will feature six privately owned clubs beginning in January 2023 and going forward.
The first-ever Twenty20 Cricket League in South Africa will have six teams, each of which will have the opportunity to sign players from a pool of players that is considered to be of the highest caliber both locally and internationally. In addition to this, all contractual Proteas players, as well as domestic players who have committed to playing in the League, are included.
The six franchises will each have a team of 17 players, and they will have the opportunity to pre-sign up to five players ahead of the auction. This can include three international players, one Proteas player, and one South African player who has never been capped for their country.
Cricket South Africa (CSA) made the announcement in July that former captain Graeme Smith will be taking on the role of Commissioner for South Africa’s brand new Twenty20 competition.
Players from a variety of countries all around the world have shown an interest in joining the League, and they are now being signed up for the 2023 season and beyond. The next weeks will see the holding of an auction, which will lead to an increase in the number of signings made by the league. The first-ever Twenty20 Cricket League to be played in South Africa has signed more than 30 notable international cricket players. (ANI)
