Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) is an Indian Premier League cricket team based in Hyderabad, Telangana (IPL). SUN Group CEO Kalanithi Maran is the team’s owner. It was started in 2012 after the IPL got rid of the Hyderabad-based Deccan Chargers. Kane Williamson is the captain of the team right now, and Tom Moody is the coach. The Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Hyderabad is their main home field.
The team played in the IPL for the first time in 2013. They made it to the playoffs and ended up in fourth place. In 2016, the Sunrisers won the IPL for the first time by beating the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the final by 8 runs. Since 2016, the team has made it to the next round of the tournament every year. In 2018, the team made it to the finals of the Indian Premier League but lost to Chennai Super Kings. The team is thought to be one of the best at bowling, and its ability to defend low scores is often praised. On three separate occasions (2015, 2017, and 2019), David Warner has been crowned the Orange Cap champion. He leads the squad in runs scored. Bhuvneshwar Kumar has won the Purple Cap twice, in 2016 and 2017. This makes him the player with the most wickets.
History of the Franchise
In 2012, Sunrisers Hyderabad took the place of the Deccan Chargers, and in 2013, they made their debut. After the Deccan Chronicle went out of business, Sun TV Network bought the rights to the show. The team was named on December 18, 2012, in Chennai. Sun TV Network owns the team.
The team’s jersey was unveiled on March 8, 2013, and G. V. Prakash Kumar’s team anthem came out on March 12, 2013. The logo was unveiled on December 20, 2012, along with the news that Kris Srikkanth would be the team’s manager. He has since been replaced by Muttiah Muralitharan, Tom Moody, and V. V. S. Laxman, all of whom have a lot of experience.
History of the Team – IPL Seasons
The 2013 IPL season
The 2013 season was the first time Sunrisers Hyderabad played in the IPL. Kumar Sangakkara was SRH’s captain for nine games, and Cameron White was captain for the other seven games and the playoff game that decided who would go on. In their first season, the team made it to the playoffs but lost to Rajasthan Royals by 4 wickets at Feroz Shah Kotla in Delhi on May 22, 2013. This meant they were out of the tournament.
The 2014 IPL season
Shikhar Dhawan and Darren Sammy were chosen as captain and vice-captain for the 2014 season. With six wins and eight losses, the team finished in sixth place and didn’t make it into the playoffs.
The 2015 IPL season
SRH kept 13 players for the 2015 season and let go of 11. David Warner was chosen to be the team’s captain for this season, and he led the team in every game. Muttiah Muralitharan was given the job of both bowling coach and mentor for the team. The team finished the season again in sixth place, with seven wins and seven losses. As a result, they did not make the playoffs. Warner won the Orange Cap for SRH for the first time.
The 2016 IPL season
SRH kept 15 players for the 2016 season and let go of nine. Sunrisers Hyderabad won the championship after beating Royal Challengers Bangalore in the final and finishing the season with 11 wins and 6 losses. This was their first and only title so far. Bhuvneshwar Kumar won the Purple Cap for Sunrisers Hyderabad for the first time.
The 2017 IPL season
In the elimination match for the 2017 season, they lost to the Kolkata Knight Riders at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore. David Warner won the Orange Cap, but Bhuvneshwar Kumar was able to keep the Purple Cap.
The 2018 IPL season
David Warner quit as captain on March 28, 2018, and the BCCI said that because of the Australian ball-tampering scandal, he will not be able to play in the IPL in 2018. Kane Williamson, the captain of New Zealand, was chosen to lead SRH for the 2018 season on March 29. After losing to Chennai Super Kings in the final, SRH finished the 2018 season with a record of 10 wins and 7 losses, which put them in second place. Williamson got 735 runs and won the Orange Cap.
The 2019 IPL season
David Warner came back to IPL on March 24, 2019, after being banned from the 2018 season because of the Australian ball-tampering scandal. In the Eliminator, which was held at the Dr. Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam, they lost to Delhi Capitals. This season, David Warner won the orange cap.
The 2020 IPL season
On February 27, 2020, David Warner was put back in charge of SRH, taking over for Kane Williamson as captain. At the end of 2020, SRH had 8 wins and 8 losses. In the playoffs, they surpassed the Royal Challengers Bangalore until having lost to the Delhi Capitals in Qualifier 2 at the Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi. David Warner scored the most runs for them this season.
The 2021 IPL season
Before the auction, SRH kept 22 players and let go of five. On February 18, 2021, the day of the auction, SRH bought three players: J Suchith, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, and Kedar Jadhav. SRH also brought Tom Moody back to work as the Director of Cricket. After only one win in the first seven games of the season, SRH announced that Kane Williamson would take over as captain for the rest of the season. David Warner will no longer lead the team.
The 2022 IPL season
In order to get ready for the big auction in 2022, the franchise kept three players and let go of 25 others in November 2021. Sunrisers let go of veteran players David Warner and Rashid Khan. Warner was their top run scorer, and Khan was their second-best wicket-taker. In terms of points, they came in eighth.
Homeground
The Sunrisers Hyderabad play their home games at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium. It is the main cricket stadium in Hyderabad, which is in the Indian state of Telangana. The Hyderabad Cricket Association is the one who owns it (HCA). It is in the eastern suburb of Uppal and has enough room for 55,000 people. The 2019 IPL award for best ground and pitch went to the Hyderabad Cricket Association.
