On 17 October, team India won their first warm match against the all-mighty Australia. On 19 October it is all set for another face-off between team India with New Zealand in a warm-up match. But unfortunately, the match got washed out with rain and it disappointed the cricket officials and fans too. Who was eagerly waiting to watch?
On 23 October, India started their ICC T20I world cup journey against Pakistan on Sunday and before the match the team had an optional practice session. Indian pacer Mohammed Shami and the team blues captain were feeling enthusiastic to come out for the practice session.
After the washout results, while speaking to India Officials, the former Indian captain and batsman Sunil Gavaskar stated that he didn’t agree with the decision of having an optional practice session for the team before the clash with Pakistan.
Sunil Gavaskar said that” I don’t know what it tells you but it’s something that I don’t agree with. When you came to Australia Melbourne you faced a day off and at the start of the tournament when you had a warm-up match washed out. And a day after the day off you didn’t choose to practise?”
“you as a team always want a rhythm. At the end of the day, those who didn’t come out for practice can turn out to be match winners Giving an option is something I believe something a captain and a coach should be doing. Say if you have scored a hundred in the previous game and you have a small niggle, the captain and the coach ask you for the option of not coming to the field and say if you don’t want to practise you don’t and it is fine.’”. similarly, Gavaskar talked about the Indian bowlers
“bowler who bowled maybe 20-30 overs and feeling sore in the shoulder, then the captain and the coach can give a chance to bowler of not coming to practise for the day.”
Gavaskar added” giving the option to the bowlers is not at all option. Only the captain and the coach should be taking that call. It was unbelievable that this decision affected the team blues many times.”
