Sunil Gavaskar, an Indian batting star, has endorsed Yashasvi Jaiswal to thrive in the forthcoming Test series in South Africa, implying that the youngster’s temperament will serve him well.
Jaiswal debuted against the West Indies earlier this year after putting up some impressive figures in local red-ball cricket. The left-handed hitter scored 171 runs in his maiden Test innings, followed by another 95 runs in his second, indicating a promising future.
“Gavaskar discussed his insights on Jaiswal with Star Sports”
Jaiswal gained some experience playing in South Africa during the just-finished series’ two T20Is against the Proteas. In the third T20I, he hit a swashbuckling 60 after being out for a duck in the second.
Nobody can get you out if you survive 12 overs – Sunil Gavaskar stressed that Indian batsmen must withstand the new-ball surge against the Proteas in the Test series if they want to pile on huge runs.

Sunil Gavaskar hinted before the series about Yashasvi Jaiswal’s performance against South Africa
Sunil Gavaskar showed confidence in Yashasvi Jaiswal’s ability to perform well against South Africa before the start of the Test series. In July, Yashasvi Jaiswal, India’s rising young batsman, made his Test debut against the West Indies.
In two matches, he scored 266 runs at an average of 88.66. Jaiswal made 171 runs in the first Test, earning him the nickname “long racehorse” from a cricket analyst. Sunil Gaswakar, an Indian great, stated that the left-handed renowned ball plays late and takes his time to perform his favorite stroke.
“Yes, there will be a way for him,” Sunil Gavaskar told Star Sports. But, even under these conditions, I believe people have the power to do good. I saw him play in a Test match, and he played the ball extremely late, his head was steady, and he came nicely in front of the ball. He does not run to get rid of the ball. He comes in late. He makes time for himself on the pitch.”
Gavaskar spoke on Jaiswal’s abilities in an interview with Star Sports. Sunil Gavaskar stated,”
“Yes, that will be a challenge for him. But I feel he can thrive in these situations as well. In Test matches, he plays the ball extremely late, his head is still, and he gets inside the line fairly beautifully. He is not attempting to hurry the ball. He plays it late because he likes giving himself time in the middle.”
