Star Sports India Acquires ICC Media Rights For Four More Years
Star Sports India Acquires ICC Media Rights For Four More Years: Star Sports will continue to be the international cricket rights holder for at least 4 years or until 2027. The International Cricket Council announced on Saturday that Disney Star, currently their official broadcast rights holder, won the India rights in a closed bidding process that ended on Friday. Several major well-funded competitors were left out of this bid which left many questioning why these competitors weren’t chosen.
On Saturday evening, after the ICC released its certification of approval, Star announced that it won Viacom 18, Sony Sports, and Zee Network’s bid for the Indian Premier League (IPL). Probably because of its larger offer, Star emerged victorious.
Star had traded at a high price, but the price quickly dropped, preventing other competitors from placing orders for the stock. This showed that Star has managed to avoid competition through effective marketing.
Disney Star’s ownership rights were sold at a sealed bid process that earned the company a significantly higher price. This momentum from the previous cycle will continue to help cricket obtain worldwide interest and expand its geographical reach.
The ICC is so pleased to continue their association with Disney Star for a broader portfolio of cricketing news and entertainment that will boost ICC’s popularity as well as help unleash CricketNext. They are also a crucial part of the future of our sport, which is backed by many partnerships and focus on engaging people all around the world.
Due to the Star group buying rights for the Indian Premier League for $23.575 billion, The Now Network will be broadcasting both the men’s and women’s global events on their channel. They also have everything from World Test Championship to the T20 World Cup as well! This includes major sporting tournaments like the World Cup in cricket as well- all streamed through a device on Disney+.
We are thrilled by the news that we will be retaining our partnership with the International Cricket Council and confident in growing the sport of cricket in India. With the acquisition of the ICC Digital and Television assets, Disney Star has reinforced its status as a premier destination for marquee cricket events.
