Sridharan Sriram was born on the 21st of February 1976. He is an Indian cricket coach and former cricket player. Sridharan Sriram is a left-handed batsman and a left-arm spin bowler. He has played in the Indian Cricket League and the Indian Premier League. He was also the coach for the Indian cricket team during the 2021 ICC World Test Championship Final. On the 19th of August 2022, he has been appointed as the technical consultant (T20I) of the Bangladesh Men’s Cricket Team till the T20 World Cup 2022.
Long-time Australian men’s assistant coach Sridharan Sriram left his job with the Kangaroos and focused on his coaching career in India recently. He has been appointed by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) to lead the national team in the upcoming Asia Cup in the UAE and the ICC T20 World Cup in Australia in October 2022.
The Chennai-based Sriram had been with the Australian national team for six years as a spin coach. He also played a key role in the batting, fielding, and strategy for the side across multiple campaigns
“Yes, we have chosen Sriram up until the World Cup,” a BCB director said.
“As we are moving forward with a fresh mindset, the new coach will be seen from the Asia Cup onwards. And since the T20 World Cup is our main target, he (a new coach) will not get time to adapt if he is not recruited from the Asia Cup. Many may say that there is not much left for the Asia Cup. However, as I said, our main focus is the T20 World Cup,” the BCB official said in the report.
At present, Sridharan Sriram is holding the role of a spin coach of the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) franchise in the Indian Premier League (IPL). This is the reason he stepped down from his role as the spin consultant of the Australian team to focus on his job as RCB spin coach.
The report stated that BCB president, Nazmul Hassan Papon, had on Thursday given a hint at making “drastic changes” to improve Bangladesh’s performance in the two upcoming mega-events. The reported development turns out to be a new coach, Russell Domingo of South Africa, who has also arrived in Dhaka. He will be focusing his attention on red-ball cricket.
The BCB official has given clarification that Russell Domingo will continue to coach the Bangladesh Test side.
Russell Craig Domingo was born on the 30th of August 1974. He is a South African cricket coach and holds the position of the current head coach of the Bangladesh National Cricket Team. Before this, he was in charge of the South African National Cricket Team for Twenty20 Internationals in December 2012. Domingo replaced Gary Kirsten in the Tests and ODIs formats in August 2013. He was appointed the head coach of the Bangladesh national cricket team on the 17th of August 2019.
“Domingo would continue his role in guiding the Test team, for now, as we have a Test match against India in November,” the BCB director said.
Sriram had played eight One Day Internationals for the India national side between 2000 and 2004. He played his last international match against Bangladesh in 2004 at Dhaka. Sriram is also enlisted on the coaching staff of IPL side Royal Challengers Bangalore.
Bangladesh is eager to perform well in the Asia Cup. The Asia Cup is set to be played in the T20 format, especially after losing the T20I series to Zimbabwe recently.
