SPPU to open its sports facilities to students of civic-run schools
SPPU to open its sports facilities to students of civic-run schools: Students attending schools that are managed by the Pune Municipal Company will soon have access to the sports facilities at Savitribai Phule Pune College (PMC).
On the occasion of National Sports Day on Monday, the vice-chancellor of Savitribai Phule Pune College, Karbhari Vishwanath Kale, made an off-the-cuff declaration regarding this matter.
“The announcement is meant to be lighthearted because we have not yet discussed this matter with the relevant authorities at PMC. As soon as we get the conversation started, we are going to immediately begin working on the mandated insurance policies that are necessary to bring the idea into reality.
According to the director of the SPPU board of sports activities and physical education, Deepak Mane, who spoke with the Indian Express, the concept is now in the stage of ideation.
The sports complex at the university, which is named after India’s first Olympic individual medallist Khashaba Jadhav, spans 27 acres and features an athletic monitor, soccer ground, astroturf garden tennis courts, a global standard capturing range, and a state-of-the-art gymnasium.
Jadhav was the first Indian athlete to win an individual Olympic medal. The indoor corridor is a vast area that can accommodate a variety of sports, including kho-kho, kabaddi, mallakhamba, martial arts, and body contact sports like wrestling, amongst others. Among the various sports that may be played in this area are kho-kho, kabaddi, and mallakhamba.

According to Mane, the complex may also get a swimming pool, a cricket pitch, and an artificial turf hockey field.
For the time being, sportspeople who attend colleges or schools that are linked with SPPU are the only ones permitted to use the sports activities advanced. The first event on our annual sporting activities calendar is set to take place as soon as all of the necessary educational processes and examinations have been completed.
The facilities are going to be used for competitions at the college and collegiate levels, including indigenous sports like kabaddi and kho-kho as well as group and individual person competitions. In conjunction with the Khelo India and Match India projects, various events will be organised on campus, and it is hoped that the same will take place on the school level, as stated by Mane.
In honour of Nationwide Sports Day, the SPPU organised invitational sport contests for kho-kho and kabaddi in addition to wrestling and zumba demonstrations for students from a variety of PMC schools.
