South Africa welcome back Du Plessis and Moeen for CSA T20 League
South Africa welcome back Du Plessis and Moeen for CSA T20 League: While the outcome of Moeen Ali’s CSKCL return is uncertain, South African franchise has welcomed back Du Plessis.
Cricket South Africa is engaged in a contract tussle with T20 leagues, Cricket South Africa banning Moeen Ali from playing for the Emirates Cricket Board’s T20 league. The English all-rounder was among the first to sign with the Emirates Twenty-20 league.
On Sunday, CSKCL, which owns the Johannesburg franchise in CSA’s yet to be named T20 league, confirmed that Moeen is one of the five players it had signed. The franchise had signed Ali for $4.0 million dollars.
Cricket South Africa has announced that they have selected Faf du Plessis, Moeen Ali, Maheesh Theekshana, Romario Shepherd and Gerald Coetzee to play in the 2019 WBBL season. They have also decided to take one player from South Africa’s development crop. They have chosen Gerald of recommended by Faf as their player to take on the tour.
However, up until now it is unclear whether or not Moeen will participate in the tournament. If that is the case, CSKCL need to find a new player for ILT20 in the next few weeks. It’s understood that both parties are currently negotiating a solution for this conflict and hope to reach an agreement soon.
As things stand, Sharjah Warriors and ILT20 have a formal agreement to pay the player. Chennai Super Kings Cricket Limited are not involved in the talks and the matter is between the two boards.
If the T20 league finishes before the ILT20 tournament, then Moeen will be able to play in both leagues. However, these schedules are not finalised yet and Moeen would need a miracle for that to happen.
Moeen’s return to CSKCL is not assured, but he has been welcomed back. He is a former South African captain and has been integral to the Chennai team in the IPL. Ahead of the 2022 season, he was released from his contract with them and headed back into the auction pool. The Chennai bought him back for their upcoming 2022 campaign and CSK lost him to Royal Challengers Bangalore, who he captained in the last edition of the IPL.
Faf du Plessis has been an integral part of Chennai Super Kings for the last 10 years. We were not lucky enough to get him in the IPL auction, but we loved his aggressive style and he was seen up close when he joined up with the Kolkata Knight Riders. We are excited to welcome Faf back with de Super Kings family again!
The CSK assembled a strong support staff in Stephen Fleming, Eric Simmons and Albie Morkel. They have a long-standing association with IPL.
