The 1983 World Cup champion Roger Binny will succeed Sourav Ganguly as BCCI president at the annual general meeting, according to information obtained by the Indian Express. Even if the former India captain wants to join the organisation that oversees cricket internationally, the BCCI won’t support Ganguly for the position of chairman.
Sourav Ganguly out of BCCI after declining IPL chairman post
Binny, who now serves as the head of the KSCA in Karnataka, is expected to be elected head of the BCCI without any opposition. Jay Shah has also submitted a nomination form and is expected to serve as BCCI Secretary for a second term in a row.
Binny, 67, who was the only contender to submit a candidacy for president on Tuesday, will have to step down from his position as head of the KSCA. Shah is anticipated to take Ganguly’s place as the representative of India at the ICC Board. Ganguly’s near future became the topic of conversation. It’s been said that he was given the position of IPL chairman but turned it down in favour of his ambitions to lead the ICC or the BCCI.
Both failed to materialise on Tuesday. Arun Dhumal, the brother of sports minister Anurag Thakur, was offered the position after Brijesh Patel denied it, and he would take over as IPL chairman in his stead.
On October 18, when the BCCI hosts its annual general body meeting in Mumbai, Binny will succeed Sourav Ganguly as president of the organisation.
According to Rajeev Shukla, the politician who serves as BCCI’s vice president, “Roger Binny has submitted nomination for the job of president, myself for the vice-post, president’s Jay Shah for secretary, Ashish Shelar for treasurer, and Devajit Saikia has filed candidacy for joint secretary’s post.”
He also disclosed information on more admins. The IPL’s governing council will be led by Arun Dhumal, while Avishek Dalmiya will serve on the council. The Apex Council will include Khairul Jamal (Mamun) Majumdar. These are the nominations as of right now, and each one is uncontested,” Shukla added.
Devajit Saika, a close assistant to Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, is anticipated to become the next joint secretary, and Memon Majumdar, a former member of the IPL governing council, has submitted his candidacy to serve on the BCCI’s Apex Council. Avishek Dalmiya, the son of late BCCI president Jagmohan Dalmiya, has submitted his application to join the IPL governing council.
The deadline for submitting nominations is this Wednesday, and applicants have until October 14 to remove their names from consideration. However, it appears that all of the back-channel activities have solidified the new BCCI power panel. On October 15, the final applicant list for various posts will be made public.
The next treasurer will be Ashish Shelar, a BJP leader from Maharashtra. In contrast to expectations, he will now serve as the BCCI’s treasurer instead of the Mumbai Cricket Association’s president.
