Sourav Ganguly Before taking over as president of the BCCI
Before taking over as president of the BCCI, Sourav Ganguly, who had previously served as captain of India and president of the BCCI, served as an adviser for the team in the Indian Premier League in 2019.
IPL sources were cited by the news agency PTI as saying that former BCCI president Sourav Ganguly is on the verge of being hired as the Director of Cricket for the Delhi Capitals. Before he became president of the BCCI, the former India captain participated in the Indian Premier League 2019 as an adviser for one of the franchises.
Sourav will be rejoining the Delhi Capitals starting with this season. The deliberations and preparations for the logistics are finished.
An IPL source watching developments told PTI on the condition of anonymity that he has worked with the franchise, has a good comfort level with the owners, and that if he had worked in the IPL at any point, it would have always been with DC. He is familiar with the team. Along with the Indian Twenty20 League club Dubai Capitals and the South African Twenty30 League team Pretoria Capitals, Ganguly will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the franchise’s cricket operations.
Ganguly a former captain
Ganguly, a former captain for both the Kolkata Knight Riders and the Sahara Pune Warriors, stepped down from his position as president of the Indian Cricket Board in October of the previous year, which marked his retirement from the Indian cricket administration.
The former opening batter is getting ready to renew his partnership with Ricky Ponting, who was once the captain of Australia. Ganguly and Ponting used to compete against each other on the cricket pitch; nevertheless, they joined forces to play for KKR in the first season of the Indian Premier League. In the 2019 edition of the Indian Premier League, Ganguly will serve as the team’s mentor, while Ricky Ponting will lead the coaching staff at DC.
Alongside Ponting, Ganguly will take an active part in the process of constructing a strong core for DC in the next IPL 2023. Their first priority will be to identify and prepare a replacement for regular DC skipper Rishabh Pant, as various sources have indicated that Pant’s participation in the full 2023 edition of the Indian Premier League is improbable.
Pant was on his way back to Roorkee
On December 30, Pant was on his way back to Roorkee, his hometown, when he was involved in an automobile accident. He was hurt in the head, back, right knee, wrist, and ankle. He also had his right wrist broken. The wicketkeeper who bats left-handed and also keeps wickets is now being treated at a hospital in Dehradun. It has not been officially confirmed how long it will take for Pant to recover and begin playing cricket again; however, the ligament tear on his right knee is likely to take about two months to heal. This effectively rules him out of the test series against Australia as well as the first week of the Indian Premier League.
