Sofia Kenin talks about how much more pressure she felt after winning the Australian Open.
Sofia Kenin talks about how much more pressure: Sofia Kenin, who is 23 years old, said that after she won her first Grand Slam at the Australian Open, she felt more pressure to do well. In 2020, Kenin won her first Grand Slam tournament when she beat Garbine Muguruza in the final of the Australian Open.
“I felt a lot more pressure from the outside, I tried to do my best, but obviously some nerves appeared that didn’t let me get the best of myself. It is something that we should expect, many people have told me that it is even normal after winning a Grand Slam or making a final in one of the big tournaments. Increased pressure is normal, in my case, I put more pressure on myself because I felt that people wanted me to win every day, but that is not realistic. It’s not realistic unless you’re Novak, Rafa or Serena,” Kenin said, according to Sportskeeda.
Kenin has been bare-handed since 2020
After she won the Australian Open, Kenin won in Lyon and came in second at the French Open. Then, after a great season in 2020, Kenin started getting injured frequently and hasn’t won any titles in the last two years. Kenin won her first two matches of the season at the Adelaide International, but she has lost her last seven. Kenin got back into competition on Tuesday at the Citi Open. She has not competed in professional-level games in the past five months.
There, Camila Osorio beat Kenin in the first round in straight sets. After the match, Kenin was asked why she chose to stop working with her father, Alex Kenin. “I had great success with my father, but I felt that it was time to move on and make my own decisions in terms of my tennis career. I think for now I just need time, to grow as a person and then we’ll see what happens in the future,” Kenin said.
