Smriti Singh Mandhana Journey So Far
Smriti Singh Mandhana was born on July 18, 1996 and is a professional Indian cricketer. She plays for the Indian women’s national team and she is a left-handed opening batswoman who can also bowl part time right arm medium pace as well. In June of 2018, the BCCI named her Best Women’s International Cricketer of this year because she received the honorable ‘Arjuna Award’ earlier this year.
At the age of two, Smriti Shriniwas Mandhana and her family moved to Madhavnagar, Sangli in Maharashtra. Here she completed her schooling. After watching both her father and brother play cricket for Sangli at district-level, she started playing too. At the age of nine, she was selected in the Maharashtra Under-15 team and at eleven was a part of the Maharashtra Under-19s team.
Smriti Mandhana got support from her family in pursuing her path to becoming a world-class cricket player. Her father, Shriniwas, monitored her schedule, while mom Smita was involved in overseeing her diet. Apart from this, Shravan who is one of Smriti’s older brothers helped with coaching when she practices batting and bowling. With the help and support of her family, she became the youngest Maharashtra Under-19 player at just 11 years old and debuted for India at the age of 18 by scoring 224 runs in 150 balls.
In 2013, Smriti Shriniwas Mandhana became the first Indian woman player to score a double century in an Under-19 cricket tournament. In the same year, she was included in the Indian women’s cricket ODI and T20 squad against Bangladesh Women, after which she made her T20 debut against Bangladesh Women on April 5th 2013.
Smriti Shriniwas Mandhana made her Limited Overs International (50 overs) debut against the Bangladesh Women’s Cricket Team on 10 April 2013 in Ahmedabad at age 17. She was picked for India’s Test cricket team for the series against England in 2014 and made her Test debut on 13 August 2014.
Shriwasti Mandhana is a player for the Brisbane Heat and was signed to Melbourne Renegades in 2017. She is the second Indian female cricketer after Harmanpreet Kaur.
