Simona Halep makes a smashing return; her clinical win over Paula Badosa. The Former Wimbledon champion advanced to the quarterfinals of the Wimbledon championship 2022. After winning her Wimbledon title in 2019, the Romanian tennis star rolled out on the centre court on 4 July 2022 afternoon. She stunned the viewers with her amazing performance leading to the quarterfinal.
As per usual Wimbledon rules and tennis players’ rules, when any player wins the Wimbledon championship, they play their next match on the tennis Macca Centre court. However, Simona Halep won Wimbledon in 2019, and the 2020 Wimbledon was cancelled.
Simona played the best match of her life to win the 2019 Wimbledon against Serena Williams. In the 2021 Wimbledon due to injury, Simona couldn’t play. So, finally, after 3 years, Simona played her match on the centre court. She
Simona defeated Paula Badosa to reach the quarter-finals
Recovering from her calf injury last year, Simona is back in Wimbledon with a bang. On Monday, 4th July 2022 she went against Paula Badosa and was defeated with sets 6-1, 6-2. Playing for the first time on the grass court, Simona put on a show for the crowd and reached the quarter-finals.
She has defeated 17 winners and keeping tabs on her errors, she broke Paula’s serve to close out the victory.
After the match on the court, Halep says” I wanted to be here today, I believe I played a great match. It’s always difficult to play against her, she is a great player to beat. Always nervous, but I enjoyed being back on Center court in the front crowd always supporting me. It’s pleasure to be back.
Simona is flying high with the winning streak and her advance to the quarterfinal, she is considered one of the strong contenders for Wimbledon this year. She is yet to lose a set in championships this year. Simona has only dropped 4 games in pairs in Madrid in April.
The former Champion won her first major championship in the French Open in 2018. She will compete against American Amanda Anisimova in the Semi finals Thursday.
