Shubman Gill is a top-order batsman in the Indian Cricket team who hails from Punjab. As a child, he used to play cricket on his farm, and later, when his father shifted his base to Mohali, he made Gill join the Punjab Cricket Association. Shubman started his professional cricket career by playing for Punjab at the Under-16 level.
In 2017, Shubman Gill made his List A debut for Punjab, and later in the same year, he played in the Ranji Trophy. On his first-class debut, he scored an impeccable 63 runs which boosted him to score his maiden ton in the next game. His impressive performance at the Under-16 level and the senior domestic level helped him in becoming a crucial member of India’s U-19 team.
Gill made it to the headlines for the first time after bagging 372 runs under his wings at an average of 124 at the Under-19 World Cup in New Zealand. He was one of the main reasons that helped India lift the trophy. All his noteworthy performances at the youth level paved a way for him to his first Indian T20 League contract where he was picked up by Kolkata Knight Riders for 1.8 crores for the 2018 IPL season. After playing four successful seasons for the franchise, ahead of the mega auction in 2022, Gill bid farewell to Kolkata and was bought by Gujarat Titans for a handsome amount of 8 crores.
