World number-1 tennis player Ashleigh Barty has announced her retirement from professional tennis at the age of just 25. The Australian legend announced the news in a video posted on social media on Wednesday.
Barty wrote on Instagram – Today is a difficult day for me as I am announcing my retirement from tennis. I am grateful and proud of what this sport has given me. Thanks to all those people who supported me.
Made Up My Mind To Retire After Winning Wimbledon
She did not take this decision suddenly, she had been thinking about it since Wimbledon last year. Barty said- I had been thinking about retirement for a long time. There were many wonderful moments in my career which were very important. Last year Wimbledon changed me a lot as a player.
He further said- I told my team many times that I no longer have that strength and will. I haven’t been able to prepare myself physically and I don’t think I can do anything else. I have given my all to this game and I am very happy with it and that is the real success for me.
Won Australian Open This Year
Ash Barty won his third Grand Slam earlier this year. In the final, Barty defeated Daniel Collins of America in straight sets. In the final at Rod Laver Arena, Barty defeated Collins 6–3, 7–6 to win her third Grand Slam.
Ashleigh Barty made history with the win. In fact, after 44 years, Ashleigh Barty became the first Australian female player to win the women’s singles title. Chris O’Neill won this tournament for Australia for the last time in 1978.

Barty won 3 Grand Slams in four years. Before winning the Australian Open, she has won the French Open in 2019 and Wimbledon in 2021 last year. Barty has not lost a single Grand Slam final yet. In 2018 and 2019, she reached the semi-finals of the US Open.
