India won the first Twenty20 International (T20I) match against Afghanistan on Thursday, January 11, in Mohali, giving them a winning start to the three-match series. Shivam Dube leads the Men in Blue.
Mohammad Nabi, an experienced all-round player, led Afghanistan in a spirited batting showing as he amassed an aggressive 42. On a respectable batting wicket, though, it was never going to be enough as the hosts crossed the finish line with 15 balls remaining.
Shivam Dube leads the Men in Blue
These are a few of India’s player rankings from the opening Twenty20 International versus Afghanistan.
AFG vs. IND 2023: Dube reaches fifty for the hosts, and Axar takes two. It was a duck run for Rohit Sharma.
Shubman Gill’s score is 6 out of 10.
After destroying his opening partner, Gill hit a few boundaries to start his innings. He was removed, though, when he played a careless shot off Mujeeb Ur Rahman.
4/10 for Rohit Sharma
In his first T20I cricket match back, Rohit had a difficult time as Gill ran him out. In the first innings, the Indian captain failed to seize a difficult opportunity.
Shivam Dube: 9
In Mohali, Dube was the star of the show. He took a wicket and bowled two economical overs, however he dropped a close chance at mid-off. Batting at No. 4, the towering left-hander demonstrated his progress with a confident half-century against stiff lengths to lead the team to victory.
Rinku Singh: Ten out of ten
Rinku entered and skillfully concluded everything. As usual, he was outstanding on the field as well.
Axar Patel: Eight out of ten
The best Indian bowler was Axar, who excelled at using his accuracy and inward angle. The left-arm spinner was India’s most economical bowler to reach his quota, taking two wickets.
Sundar in Washington: 5 out of 10.
Sundar let up 14 runs in his first two overs despite maintaining tight bowling. In the one over he bowled in the end, he mishandled his areas and missed an easy caught-and-bowled opportunity.
