Shikhar Dhawan agrees that senior players should get time off between series and voices his views on Deepak Hooda!
Shikhar Dhawan agrees that senior players should get time off : Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have been getting a lot of criticism for taking time off from cricket. However, their teammate Shikhar Dhawan pointed out that a player would be mentally tired if he played two games in a row. The left-handed batter also said that a player has to be in good shape to play at his best.
Dhawan’s Opinion
Dhawan said that international cricket has rotation so that players can get some rest. He also said that players would be tired if they had to travel everywhere. He thinks that the best players know and plan for how to keep a good balance between game time and rest time.
“A player has to get fresh to give peak performance. If a player plays back-to-back, he will get mentally tired,” Dhawan told India Today. “It is important to give rest mentally. If you see there is rotation in international cricket so that players get rest. If a player travels everywhere, he will get tired.”
Deepak Hooda has to wait if there is a more experienced player: Shikhar Dhawan
“At the end of the day, a cricketer is a human. I feel people at top level understand and accordingly plan to keep a nice balance,” the 36-year-old added. Both Rohit and Kohli missed the home T20I series vs. South Africa, the away series versus Ireland, and the away ODI series against West Indies following the conclusion of the Indian Premier League (IPL) in May. Additionally, Kohli sat out the West Indies T20I series, and he also won’t play in the three ODIs against Zimbabwe.
In England, Kohli joined the team instead of Deepak Hooda, who had been doing well in the T20Is. Dhawan talked about the situation and said that Hooda’s being left out was okay because he was making way for a more experienced player. The 36-year-old went on to say that it is normal because the senior player has done well for over ten years.
“Be it Deepak or someone else, it’s quite normal. If the communication is good, then there is no problem,” expressed Dhawan. “I’m sure they must have got reasoning. There is a process, every captain and coach has a different process. So, whatever their process is they will go accordingly. I’m sure they are creating a healthy environment out there.”
