Madan Lal was the 1983 World Cup champion all-rounder for India. Has criticized Harmanpreet’s Kaur for her actions during the third ODI against Bangladesh on Saturday.
She was called “pathetic” for her acts and the former cricketer urged the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to punish her severely.
Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka’s third one-day match against Bangladesh, which finished in a thrilling stalemate, has brought under scrutiny for a number of issues.
First, the Indian skipper clearly expressed her anger with the decision by smashing the stumps and arguing with the umpires after being run out.
She allegedly made a derogatory comment later on during the team photo with the Bangladeshi team. Requesting the umpires to join in and implying that they had a hand in deciding the game’s outcome.
Lal, who played for India in 39 Tests and 67 ODIs, criticized Harmanpreet’s actions on Twitter. He wrote:
The way Harmanpreet treated the Bangladesh women’s team was despicable. She does not outweigh the competition. She gave Indian cricket a very poor reputation. The BCCI should impose very severe sanctions.
The third one-day international between India and Bangladesh saw the hosts bat first and register a respectable 225/4 in their 50 overs thanks to Fargana Hoque’s 107 from 160 balls.
With two excellent half-centuries from Harleen Deol (77 off 108) and Smriti Mandhana (59 off 85). India Women appeared to be cruising at 191/4 in the chase. However, following Harleen’s run out. India lost their composure and were eventually bowled out for 225 in 49.3 overs.
Nigar Sultana, the captain of Bangladesh, slammed Harmanpreet’s Kaur
She has previously been under fire from Bangladesh captain Nigar Sultana for her actions during and following the third ODI in Dhaka. She also denied her Indian counterpart’s accusations that the umpiring throughout the series was “pathetic”.
At a press conference after the hotly contested series, she stated:
“It’s entirely her fault. I’m not involved in it in any way. She could have behaved better as a player. I’m not sure what transpired, but having my crew present for the shot didn’t feel right. It wasn’t the appropriate setting. That is why we returned. Cricket is a disciplined and respectful sport.
If she wasn’t out, the umpires wouldn’t declare her out. They were competent umpires because they have officiated men’s international cricket matches. What will India say regarding the caught or run-out dismissals? We have honored their judgment. Whether I agree with it or not, the umpire’s judgment is final, the Bangladesh skipper continued.
She will receive four demerit points and a punishment equal to 75% of her match fee citing a Cricbuzz report for her actions during the third ODI.
